Senior Environmental Scientist/Ecologist

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Environmental Scientist to join our team to work primarily in southeast Florida. The successful candidate will have 8+ years of experience in environmental consulting or similar role. Experience in areas such as wetland delineations, listed species surveys, environmental permitting, NEPA and Phase I and II ESAs are expected. In this role, you will be responsible for managing projects, and providing guidance on environmental regulations and compliance. This job is an opportunity to provide strategic input and guidance from the ground up to help shape our growth in South Florida. This will be a very rewarding position.

Our successful candidate must have proven experience managing large and small ecological, environmental and permitting projects and in-depth knowledge of permitting processes at the local, state and federal level. The ideal candidate will have established relationships in the environmental resources sector within South Florida and an ecological and permitting technical background.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a variety of ecological, environmental and permitting projects.
  • Lead proposal efforts to grow ecological and permitting related work in the region.
  • Manage technical staff and provide expertise for state and federal permitting including NEPA EAs and EISs.
  • Teach and mentor junior scientists.
  • Coordinate and negotiate with Federal, State and Local Agencies as related to writing and reviewing permit.
  • Meet with project developers, owners/operators, and public agencies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant natural science; Master’s Degree preferred
  • 8+ years of experience managing ecological, permitting and NEPA projects
  • Excellent project management, leadership, technical writing, presentation and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources, disciplines, and experts including senior management, clients, and regulatory agencies.
  • Established relationships with local, state and federal permitting agencies.
  • Extensive experience in conducting wetland delineations and wildlife surveys.
  • Experienced in preparing environmental permitting applications for local, state and federal agencies

Business Development (not required)

For the right person, this position could be responsible for leading business development initiatives to grow work in the region, managing a variety of environmental permitting and ecological projects including multidisciplinary roadway /development / infrastructure projects and habitat restoration projects. This additional skill would come with added benefits in pay, such as commission, bonuses, etc.
