About this scholarship

The purpose of the Scholarship is to support and encourage students to study metallurgy with the view of practising as a qualified Metallurgist in the years to come.

The IMO Extractive Metallurgy Scholarship will provide the following support for up to one year (based on a full-time study load of 100 credits):

  • A total value of up to $10,000 paid as a cash stipend of $5,000 per semester. The amount can be used at the recipient’s discretion to contribute towards educational related expenses
  • Potential paid vacation employment with IMO at Metallurgy Pty Ltd (dependant on business operations and availability)

Scholarship Details

  • Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical Engineering), Bachelor of Science (Extractive Metallurgy)
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Metallurgical Engineering)
  • Bachelor of Science (Extractive Metallurgy)

Applicants must meet all of the following criteria to be eligible to apply for the IMO Extractive Metallurgy Scholarship:

  • Australian or New Zealand Citizen, Australian Permanent Resident or Australian Permanent Humanitarian Visa holder
  • Enrolled full-time (100 credits) in the 2nd or 3rd year of an eligible course in Semester 1, 2023
  • Have a minimum course weighted average (CWA) of 55

Application process

Step 1: Access application form

  • Application form can be accessed via ‘My Studies’ tab in OASIS or via the ‘Apply Online’ button on the top right-hand side of this page
  • If you are an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander student and would like to be considered for all other scholarships (both equity as well as merit scholarships) available in this round, we recommend that you apply for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Scholarship Program here (only one application form to complete)

Step 2: Complete

  • Complete the application form online
  • Application form can be saved at any point of the process
  • Multiple scholarships can be applied for at one time
  • Tips on how to complete your application can be found under the ‘Application Advice ’ tab on the scholarships website

Step 3: Submit

  • Closing date is listed at the top of the page and within the Scholarships Channel on OASIS
  • Incomplete applications will not be assessed
  • Once submitted, application status will change to submitted

Step 4: Receipt

  • Application receipt will be sent to student email once application has been submitted

Step 5: Assessment

  • Applications will be assessed by an assessment panel using the following criteria:
    • Responses to questions in application form
    • Academic merit
    • Interview performance (for shortlisted applicants)

Step 6: Shortlist for Interview

  • Shortlisted applicants sent an interview date and time via student email
  • Shortlisted applicants must be available for designated interview time
  • Interviews will be conducted between 29 March and 6 April 2023 and will be held at IMO’s office (88 Thomas Street, West Perth WA 6005)
  • Unsuccessful applicants will be sent a notification via the Scholarship Channel (Student OASIS)

Step 7: Outcome

  • Successful and unsuccessful interview applicants will be notified of their outcome via the Official Communications Channel within approximately two weeks of their interview date

Step 8: Acceptance

  • Successful applicants must accept the terms and conditions via the Scholarship Channel (Student OASIS) by the deadline

Please note:

  • Scholarship will be awarded if there are applicants of sufficient merit

Enrolment Requirements

Recipients must meet all of the following:

  • Maintain a full-time enrolment of at least 100 credits in an eligible course per semester at Curtin University
  • Maintain a CWA of at least 55. Academic monitoring of scholarship recipients will occur each semester
  • Pass all units attempted each semester
