About this scholarship

The Key Assets Indigenous Social Work Scholarship supports and encourages the next generation of Indigenous students to complete a degree in social work.

Key Assets is a non-government, not-for-profit children’s services agency, providing services across Australia to children, young people and their families, with a particular focus on foster care and young people with a disability. For Key Assets to continue this highly valuable work, they need more Indigenous Social Workers with relevant experience to meet the ongoing demand of supporting children, young people and their families.

The Key Assets Indigenous Social Work Scholarship will provide the following support for up to one year (based on a full-time enrolment of 100 credits per semester):

  • A total value of $5,000 paid as a cash stipend of $2,500 per semester. The amount can be used at the recipient’s discretion to contribute towards educational related expenses.

Scholarship Details

Bachelor of Social Work

Applicants must meet all of the following criteria to be considered eligible for the Key Assets Indigenous Social Work Scholarship:

  • Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent
  • Enrolled full-time (75-100 credits) or part-time (50 credits) in the 3rd or 4th year of studies in Bachelor of Social Work in semester 1, 2023
  • Have a minimum course weighted average (CWA) of 50

Application process

Step 1: Access application form

  • Application form can be accessed via the ‘My Studies’ tab in OASIS or via the ‘Apply Online’ button on the top right-hand side of this page
  • Please note that this link will direct you to the general “Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Scholarship Program ” application form. Once you submit your application, you will then be considered for all scholarships that you are eligible for in this round.

Step 2: Complete

  • Complete the application form online
  • Application form can be saved at any point of the process
  • Tips on how to complete your application can be found on the ‘Applying for scholarships’ link on the scholarships website

Step 3: Submit

  • Closing date is listed at the top of the page and within the Scholarships Channel on OASIS
  • Incomplete applications will not be assessed
  • Once submitted, application status will change to submitted

Step 4: Receipt

  • Application receipt will be sent to student email once application has been submitted

Step 5: Assessment

  • Applications for the Key Assets Indigenous Social Work Scholarship will be assessed by an assessment panel using the following criteria:
    • Responses provided in the application form
    • Academic merit
    • Barriers to education 

Step 6: Outcome

  • All successful and unsuccessful applicants notified of their outcome via the Scholarships Channel (Student OASIS) within 6-8 weeks of the scholarship closing date

Step 7: Acceptance

  • Successful applicants must accept the terms and conditions via the Scholarship Channel (Student OASIS) by the deadline

Please note:

  • Scholarship will be awarded if there are applicants of sufficient merit

Enrolment Requirements

Recipients must meet all of the following:

  • Maintain a full-time or part-time enrolment of at least 50 credits in the Bachelor of Social Work each semester at Curtin University
  • Maintain a course weighted average (CWA) of at least 50 each semester
  • Pass all units attempted each study period

Recipients may also seek other scholarship opportunities whilst in receipt of the Key Assets Indigenous Social Work Scholarship
