Job Summary The College of Nursing at Auburn University is seeking applications for the position of Academic Advisor I/II/III. The successful candidate will, under limited supervision, provide a variety of professional and administrative student services, in the College of Nursing.

Essential Functions Responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Advises students in matters related to goals, policies, choice of curriculum, course load, study habits, course scheduling, academic action and problem resolution.
  • Interprets University policies, procedures, and curriculum to students, faculty, and staff.
  • Works with others in order to provide students timely information on educational options and University policies.
  • Assists with student orientations.
  • Makes appropriate referrals.
  • Verifies, certifies, and/or completes appropriate student-related forms, and processes.
  • Maintains student and advising records in accordance with State/Federal law and University regulations.
  • May clear students for graduation.
  • Maintains student data security.
  • Utilizes appropriate technology to support effective advising.
  • Actively involved in professional development opportunities at the campus level (at minimum).
  • Develops contacts with departments and faculty.

Education Level Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
Field of Study General; no specific discipline
Years of Experience No experience required at the Level I
Area of Experience
Requirements for Additional Job Levels Level II requires a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution plus 3 years of experience in advising of which 2 years includes full-time primary duties of advising in higher education.
Level III requires a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution plus 5 years of experience in advising of which 4 years includes full-time primary duties of advising in higher education.
Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

Desired Qualifications A Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Counseling, Communication, Education, Nursing or a relevant field.
Previous advising experience in an educational setting.
Knowledge of Auburn University academic rules and regulations.
Core curriculum, transfer credit guidelines, and evaluation procedures.
The ability to work with a diverse group of students, faculty and staff.
Outstanding listening skills.
Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
The ability to work independently and with a team.
Proficiency with relevant computer skills, such as Microsoft Office suite, Zoom, and BANNER.
