Academic Lead for Undergraduate Year 4 Courses

Applications are invited for the new position of Academic Lead for Undergraduate Year 4 Courses to work with the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences’ expanding Undergraduate Teaching Group. This new post will provide academic leadership for the undergraduate courses in Year 4 the medical degree at the University of Oxford.

The successful applicant will have responsibility for developing the programme of primary care courses delivered during Year 4 of the Oxford undergraduate medical degree. This will be involved with delivering the GP Placement course in Michaelmas Term and GP Out of Oxford Teaching during Hilary and Trinity Terms. You will contribute to the development of new teaching, to ensure our courses are relevant to modern clinical practice and follow best educational practice.

You will be medically qualified, ideally an experienced GP. You should have experience as an undergraduate educator and understand the workings and contribution of primary care to the Oxford medical degree course.  You should have excellent communication skills. You will be well organised and able to work unsupervised. You should have a good understanding of national guidelines governing medical education (e.g. General Medical Council and SAPC/RCGP).

You will be based in the Gibson Building, Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences, Radcliffe Observatory Quarter, Woodstock Road, Oxford, OX2 6GG, but you will be able to agree a pattern of occasional remote working with your line manager. Working sessions will be flexible to suit the needs of the role but preferably include either a Tuesday or Thursday, to align with the Undergraduate Teaching Group’s main teaching days.
