The Division of Media Arts + Practice (MA+P) within the School of Cinematic Arts at the University of Southern California seeks an adjunct assistant professor to teach a 400-level undergraduate course titled IML 400: Creative Coding for the Web. The course provides an introduction to the analysis and development of media projects using diverse web authoring strategies, technologies, and documentation. As in most MA+P courses, IML 400 integrates theory and practice to understand how ideology, power, and bias may be embedded into any design process. The ideal candidate will be an artist or designer who is adept in integrating the perceptual, conceptual, and creative components of coding with technical workshops so that students gain an understanding of basic information architecture, layout, navigation, and technology best practices. The course themes include an overview of diverse markup languages, creative uses of scripting languages, and an introduction to a broad array of platforms and projects. Experience teaching undergraduate students preferred.
Minimum education: Master’s degree or equivalent work experience.
Minimum experience: 2-4 years’ experience with code, web development and design.
Preferred education: Ph.D. in media-related discipline.
Preferred experience: 3-5 years’ experience with code, web development and design.
