Position Summary & Dimensions

Summary

The Adventure Sales & Marketing Manager develops, implements and adjusts accordingly, the sales and marketing strategies and plans, analyzes market trends and manages relevant outreach and marketing campaigns. A significant portion of this position prospects and nurtures customer relationships to ensure that our annual earned revenue goals are met and that our adventure offerings are in alignment with market interest, organizational goals and capacity.

Classification Starting Range: $60,500 – $72,000, depending on experience
Reports To: Director, Sales and Development
Supervisory Responsibilities: None
Environment: Hybrid, with some days reporting to the Wilderness Inquiry office in Bloomington

Essential Roles and Responsibilities

Responsibility 1: Adventure Sales, 50% FTE. 

Serve as the lead sales representative for private and public adventures:

  • Manage all aspects of the sales funnel, from qualification to close
  • Close new business consistently at or above quota level
  • Maintain pristine CRM records and accurate pipeline forecasting
  • Nurture customer relationships and sustain rapport with key accounts
  • Respond to customer inquiries and provide counsel on various extended adventure itineraries
  • Coordinate private itinerary modification requests with appropriate trip directors and adventures staff
  • Work with appropriate account managers to close sales and complete service agreements
  • Coordinate sales efforts with team members across departments

Responsibility 2: Marketing & Outreach, 40% FTE. 

Develop and lead adventure sales outreach and marketing efforts.

  • Actively manage and deploy adventure marketing calendar of events and activities, coordinating the cadence with the External Relations and Programs Departments
  • Manage and expand sales and marketing lists, with an eye toward data integrity and audience segmentation
  • Understand current market trends to ensure our adventures and itineraries meet emerging customer demands and expectations
  • Manage and execute on quarterly paid social media strategy and content, in consultation with the External Relations Department
  • Develop sales, marketing, and outreach email campaigns, collateral, and materials, within brand guidelines and in consultation with the External Relations Department
  • Manage extended adventure sales-related outreach events
    • Train and mentor Outdoor Leaders and other staff assigned to outreach events on audience engagement
    • Collaborate with Programs team to manage scheduling and staffing of events
  • Manage Wilderness Inquiry store, including selection and inventory of promotional products

Responsibility 3:  Planning & Data Management, 10% FTE. 

Facilitate the development of the annual Adventures Sales & Marketing Plan and Monthly/Quarterly benchmark meeting

  • Work with Director of Development and Sales to create and monitor annual sales and marketing plans
  • Analyze consumer behavior and market trends; collect, analyze, and summarize findings
  • Advise on adventure itinerary pricing reviews, based on market analysis research
  • Train staff on best practices and workflow for customer relationship management (CRM) documentation and data integrity
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in the customer relationship management (CRM) system, Filemaker Pro, Google Drive, HubSpot, and/or other systems for sales and trip-related information

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing or related field; or 3 years of sales and marketing experience
  • Proven success in a marketing and sales role
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Superior communication skills, whether on video conference, phone calls, in-person, or written communication
  • Demonstrated ability to create and deliver content tailored to audience interests and needs
  • Demonstrated time management and organizational skills that lead to achievement of goals and revenue targets
  • Strong proficiency with spreadsheets, reporting, and data management
  • Proficiency with HubSpot or other customer relationship management (CRM) applications
  • Commitment to the vision, mission, and values of Wilderness Inquiry

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience working in or with non-profit organizations
  • Passion for the outdoors and nature-based recreation
  • Multi-cultural competence and experience working with historically and currently under-represented communities in nature-based outdoor recreation spaces

Physical Requirements: 

  • Must be able to use a telephone and computer
  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
  • Must possess a legal driver’s license and ability to drive a car
