Summary
The Assistant Director is a multi-faceted role providing nutrition education to medical students and community members by teaching cooking classes at the Goldring Center for Culinary Medicine (GCCM), and managing kitchen support staff, students and interns. The Assistant Director works closely with the Director of Operations to manage daily kitchen operations and the physical teaching kitchen facility. The position will be responsible for recruiting and training kitchen support staff and ensuring proper staffing is met for all classes and events. The position will handle vendor accounts and invoice payment and work closely with the Director of Operations to develop budgets and monitor organizational spending. The Assistant Director will oversee the kitchen’s community outreach functions and projects. The position requires that the candidate have substantial skills in kitchen management, nutrition, culinary arts, and proactive outreach to many constituencies.
Required Education and/or Experience
• Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of two (2) years of related work experience
• Minimum of one (1) year or more of culinary or professional kitchen experience
• Experience managing and supervising rotating interdisciplinary staff
• Experience with budgeting and accounting
Preferred Qualifications
• Ability to manage various multi-faceted projects simultaneously
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Excellent organizational and time management skills
• Ability to manage students, interns, and volunteers and delegate duties effectively
• Ability to teach students office and kitchen related tasks effectively
• ServSafe Food Protection Manager certification
• Ability to work in a culturally diverse, community-centered atmosphere
