The Business Development Consultant will work closely with the Interim Director – Asia and Program Manager, CBC & Asia, and will be responsible for coordinating the expansion of existing commercialization efforts in Bangladesh, while collaborating with donors, partners, and staff to launch new partnerships, using innovative technologies in scaling supply and increasing demand. The selected candidate will play a significant role in developing crop value chains and innovative finance models and contribute to the HarvestPlus goal of reaching one billion people by 2030 through the development of inclusive and sustainable markets for biofortified crops and foods.

Background

HarvestPlus works at the cutting edge of international development to tackle malnutrition in rural communities in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Our vision is a world free of hidden hunger. HarvestPlus engages with public and private sector partners along entire value chains to develop and deliver new, more nutritious staple crops and food products that provide higher amounts of vitamin A, iron, or zinc. HarvestPlus takes an innovative approach to biofortification–we adopt conventional plant breeding to improve the nutritional value of everyday foods that hundreds of mllions of people rely on. Biofortification targets rural families that are not easily reached by other, post-productive interventions such as food fortification and supplementation. To date, more than 60 million farming household members are consuming 13 biofortified crops, and tens of millions of off-farm beneficiaries have been reached through markets. Biofortification is evidence-based, cost-effective, and sustainable.

Operating with 125+ staff across 12 countries, HarvestPlus is part of the CGIAR research network – a global agriculture research partnership comprising 15 research centers. To drive the market and generate revenue for other biofortification programs, HarvestPlus is an established not for-profit enterprise headquarted in the United States and is expanding a network of entities in selected countries utilizing new partnership models with market actors along the value chain to develop and drive the uptake of biofortified products in the markets. The establishment of Nutritious Agri Future (NAF), a social enterprise in Bangladesh, is in process.
