CAA (Certified Anesthesiologist Assistant) – Adult – Froedtert Menomonee Falls Hospital / Medical College of Wisconsin

The Medical College of Wisconsin is seeking a Certified Anesthesiologist Assistant (CAA) to join its Adult Anesthesiology Division at the Froedtert Menomonee Falls Hospital Campus

At Froedtert, the practice of anesthesiology encompasses a medically directed team approach involving faculty anesthesiologists, anesthesiology fellows, residents, and advanced practice certified nurse anesthetists and CAAs. We have experienced dramatic clinical, scientific, and academic growth; and throughout the years have consistently been recognized by our peers in the Medical College of Wisconsin and its affiliated hospitals for our leadership and innovation. We are constantly growing and adapting to meet the needs of our patients and our communities. Our faculty team currently includes Anesthesiologists, Certified Anesthesiologist Assistants, four mental-health specialists and scientists dedicated exclusively to research.

The faculty provides more than 63,000 anesthetics annually in more than 100 anesthetizing locations on any given day, considering all affiliate hospitals, operating rooms, and out-of-the-OR locations.   Our team provides exemplary patient care through the consistent delivery of evidence-based, patient-centered medicine; education of both residents and advanced practice professionals; and the pursuit of research interests that will define novel therapies in a dynamic and growing academic environment.

Patient Care

Froedtert Menomonee Falls Hospital, founded in 1964 by the citizens of Menomonee Falls and surrounding communities, is a full-service hospital that specializes in cancer care, heart and vascular care, orthopaedics, women’s health and advanced surgical procedures. Originally named Community Memorial Hospital, Froedtert Menomonee Falls Hospital is part of the Froedtert & MCW health network, which includes 10 hospital locations, more than 2,100 physicians and more than 45 health centers and clinics, draws patients from throughout the Midwest and the nation. In our most recent fiscal year, outpatient visits were more than 1.7 million, inpatient admissions to our hospitals exceeded 58,000 and visits to our network physicians totaled more than 1.17 million. Since 2017, the hospital has been home to inpatient training for Medical College of Wisconsin residents part of the Froedtert Menomonee Falls Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program. A three-year residency, the program includes 18 residents with six residents per class. The Community Outreach Health Clinic at Froedtert Menomonee Falls Hospital serves uninsured or under-insured people. No patient is turned away because of the inability to pay for needed health services. With a team of 150 dedicated volunteers, Volunteer Services supports the mission of the hospital by providing care and services to patients, families, visitors, providers and staff.

The successful candidate must possess the ability to provide high quality anesthesia care to a complex pediatric patient population, working directly under the supervision of our Anesthesiologists and as part of a team of highly trained and dedicated team of CAAs and certified nurse anesthetists.

In this role you will:

  • Administer general and local anesthesia
  • Maintain anesthesia delivery systems and monitors, including testing and calibration
  • Prepare patients to be effectively monitored
  • Monitor patients under anesthesia
  • Make recommendations regarding anesthetic care plans
  • Perform post-procedure tests on patients to ensure that they are recovering well
  • Responsible for the operation of anesthesia equipment to monitor patients while delivering direct anesthesia care.
  • Provide direct patient care before, during and after anesthesia to ensure continuity of care and quality.
  • Obtain complete patient medical histories, conducting physical exams, and pre-procedure interviews
  • Review the complete patient medical history to confirm its authenticity with the patient/family to ensure it is accurate with the physical exams and pre-procedure interviews
  • Administer/order required diagnostic and laboratory tests
  • Work with Anesthesiologists to determine the next step of prep for the procedures and begin the stages of prepping the patient for the procedure
  • Employ CPR or other emergency procedures as indicated
  • Perform varies administrative duties that might involve collecting medical records, conducting patient chart reviews, and following up with patients/families pre or post procedures

Education

In addition to our Physician resident and fellow training programs, we offer a Master of Science in Anesthesia program – one of just 12 in the nation. We launched our program in 2016, recognizing a growing need for skilled anesthetists in Wisconsin and throughout the country. The program is fully accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs.

Research

Research in the Department is internationally recognized for its contributions to calcium channel biophysics, vascular reactivity, myocardial protection, and experimental neurosciences, with a focus on traumatic brain injury and the physiology and pharmacology of pain modulation. Our research is supported by funding from the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, Department of Defense, Advancing a Healthier Wisconsin, the VA, American Heart Association and the Foundation for Anesthesia Education and Research, among others.
