The Program in Physical Therapy at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis has an opening for a clinical research specialist (i.e., research physical therapist) to join the Shoulder Biomechanics and Rehabilitation lab led by Rebekah Lawrence, PT, PhD. The position is full-time but has the potential to be negotiated as a part-time position. Our lab is dedicated to improving the quality of life for individuals with shoulder pain by investigating the biomechanical factors associated with shoulder pathology, symptom manifestation, and functional decline. Our approach is to conduct rigorous, clinically-relevant research that integrates clinical assessment, diagnostic imaging, and state-of-the-art methods of assessing human movement with the passion and expertise of a multi-disciplinary research team. The successful applicant shares this passion and will contribute to all aspects of the research process including brainstorming, project planning, subject recruitment, data collection and processing, database management, statistical analysis, and dissemination.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Recruits subjects, manages participation in study, schedules and coordinates study procedures, and assists with data collection, processing, and analysis.
Maintains files, materials, and data collection instruments.
Provides information, education, and support to patients via physical therapy.
Serves as reviewer for proposals, protocols and manuscripts and participates in development of professional guidelines and policies for care and education.
Composes and submits applications, abstracts and manuscripts, monitors data management and assists with data analysis.
Assists the principal investigator (PI) with short- and long-term planning and implementation of new programs/projects.
Confers with the PI to assist in developing plans for research projects and discuss the interpretation of results; collaborates in the preparation of manuscripts for publications and preparation of grant proposals to sponsoring agencies; assists in the preparation of amendments to protocols and/or modifications to study design as appropriate.

- Bachelor’s degree in related field with 5+ years of clinical/research experience.
- REQUIRED LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION: Current licensure to practice as a physical therapist or an occupational therapist in the State of Missouri and/or Illinois, depending on location. Basic Life Support Certification, Level C, or obtains certification within one month of employment. Online BLS certifications, those without a skills assessment component, are not sufficient to meet the BLS requirements.
$61,000.00 – $110,600.00 / Annually
The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one’s qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
