Reporting to a Research Fellow and working closely with the Deputy Director of the Africa Programme, the successful candidate will be providing outreach and dissemination support for the Africa Programme’s wide range outputs, including events and publications; work closely with the Programme’s research teams to coordinate media engagement; and oversee the production of monthly newsletters, multimedia outputs and social media outreach.

Key Responsibilities


  • Compiling publicity for programme activities, including events and publications.
  • Planning, designing and production of monthly Programme newsletter.
  • Support in social media engagement.
  • Production of multimedia outputs, including videos of events, explainers, interviews.
  • Maintaining the Programme’s webpages.
  • Responding to media enquiries, setting up interviews on behalf of Africa Programme staff and Associate Fellows.
  • Managing media logistics during Africa Programme events.


  • Liaising with authors and Chatham House Communications Department on production, promotion and dissemination of expert comments.
  • Supporting the development of relationships with Africa-focussed journalists and outlets.


  • Supporting with digital strategy for the Programme.
  • Working with Africa Programme researchers and the Chatham House Communications Department to help develop media outreach strategies around key Africa Programme projects and outputs.
  • Helping to maintain and grow the Africa Programme database of media contacts in accordance with GDPR.

You will have:

  • Experience of developing social media content and campaigns.
  • Ability to liaise and engage journalists and media organizations.
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Skills and experience in audio-visual content design and digital editing (desirable).
  • Knowledge and experience of using Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Premier Pro or alternative platforms for video and image editing (desirable).
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills and keen attention to detail.
  • Willingness to learn and are an enthusiastic teammate with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Appetite for establishing relationships with external stakeholders and journalists.
  • Ability to react quickly and efficiently to fluid and moving deadlines as well as multitask.
  • Experience of supporting events organisation including abroad.

Salary: £31,000 per year.

Contract: Full-time, Permanent. 

Location: Hybrid (Office/Home), minimum 2 days in the office per week.
