Counselling Interpreter Assistant

UNHCR Representation for Central Europe in Budapest, Hungary is hiring a locally recruited individual contractor to provide counselling and interpretation services in Zahony, Hungary at the Hungarian/Ukrainian border where UNHCR has permanent presence.

Purpose and Scope of Assignment:

Interpreting and translating:

• Facilitating interviews or individual/group discussions between UNHCR and refugees fleeing Ukraine; Undertaking mission travels outside duty station to perform necessary service, as needed;
• Translating and/or proofreading of various written and audio materials, incl. legal texts, public information materials such as rights awareness leaflets, online content etc; from English and Hungarian to Ukrainian language and vice versa;
• For text-based works: Paying attention to detail at all levels and check for errors (e.g. grammar, syntax, spelling, punctuation, formatting) to ensure the translated text is an accurate, faithful and consistent rendering of the original text;
• Using UNHCR glossaries and if necessary, perform terminology research and use the correct terms and names consistently throughout the translation;

Counselling and information provision:

• Facilitating interviews or individual/group discussions between UNHCR and refugees fleeing Ukraine as directed by UNHCR staff;
• Providing counseling and updated information relevant to refugees;
• Conducting protection monitoring interviews, and other surveys or questionnaires, as directed, and as requested by supervisor;
• Performing other related duties as required.

Minimum years of work experience:

• Candidates with less years of experience cannot be short-listed or recommended: 1 year relevant experience with a High School Diploma; or a Bachelor or equivalent or higher

Language Required:

• Hungarian/English/Ukrainian
