Oxford University Department for Continuing Education (OUDCE) is seeking to appoint a Departmental Lecturer in Environmental Science to help to deliver our teaching offering in this area, including the Postgraduate Certificate in Ecological Survey Techniques.

About the role

The Departmental Lecturer in Environmental Science will fulfil the role of Course Co-Director of the Postgraduate Certificate in Ecological Survey Techniques and the associated programme of postgraduate accredited online short courses.

The Departmental Lecturer in Environmental Science will act as a key member of the subject-area team, which includes the Director of Studies in Biological Sciences. The post-holder will teach in the Environment and Sustainability subject area, and other related subject-area programmes, as required. They will be part of the academic community of the Department and engage in advanced scholarship.

This is a part-time (0.3 FTE) position, available on a fixed-term contract until 30 September 2024 in the first instance.

About you

You will hold a relevant postgraduate qualification, such as a doctorate in Ecology, Environmental Science or equivalent, with a demonstrable aptitude for teaching the subject at postgraduate level.  You will have excellent organisational and communication skills required to direct and oversee award-bearing and online short courses, with sufficient depth and breadth of knowledge in the subject to develop new course content and materials;

Familiarity with pedagogic methods in lifelong learning, together with teaching experience in one or more of the following areas will be advantageous:

•        Plant biodiversity and habitat assessment methods;

•        Statistics for ecologists and field biologists;

•        Mammal and reptile survey methods;

•        Bird biodiversity and population monitoring methods;

•        Fish and amphibian survey methods;

•        Invertebrate biodiversity and population monitoring methods.
