Position Overview The director will be responsible for various student engagement functional areas that include, but are not limited to: Leadership Development, Fraternity & Sorority Life, Student Organizations, Campus Activities, including festivals and the programming board, Campus Recreation, Service opportunities, Student Government Association, Scholarship Programs, and Multicultural program efforts. This position will be responsible for supervising staff, aiding staff in the development of assessment measures that will aid in showing the educational outcomes of co-curricular programs and the impact student engagement programs/initiatives have on the students and the institution. The director will also assist in implementing assessment results to enhance the success of Student Engagement.

Minimum Qualifications Master’s degree and five years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; Exercise professional judgment, discretion, confidentiality, and sensitivity 
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Thorough knowledge of the issues student issues and the personal skills to serve as an advisor and administrator. 
  • Knowledge and skills to professionally and effectively counsel and mentor students. 
  • Strong ability to establish successful working relationships and to communicate effectively with students, faculty, and staff orally and in writing. 
  • Organizational, planning, assessment, budgeting, and supervisory skills. 
  • Knowledge of University and external rules and policies related to the assigned program areas and Student Affairs in general. 
  • Knowledge of safety and security precautions related to work performed and work supervised. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. 
Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree and seven years of professional experience in Student Affairs, student services, student engagement, or a related field.
Experience working with specialized programs such as on-campus food/care pantries
Familiarity working with underrepresented student populations
Demonstrated understanding of CAS standards, Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, and other higher education tools/philosophy to increase effectiveness Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally to diverse audiences including administrators, faculty, students, and staff.
Required License / Registration / Certification
Work Schedule Scheduled work hours within the 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM timeframe, Monday –Friday, with varying evening event assistance as needed.

Job Duties

o Develop policies and procedures for the department.
o Create and implement assessment measures to ensure success of the department and the students that are served.
o Create opportunities for involvement for students that promotes student responsibility, accountability and ethical values
o Anticipate, evaluate, and address changes in student needs, in order to design and implement programs and services to improve the student experience.
o Serve as a budget authority for multiple budgets that fall under the department and manage all aspects of the department’s budget including but not limited to budget requests and allocations, including those of the functional areas.
o Work collaboratively with key on- and off-campus partners to develop a coordinated strategic plan to recruit, retain, and graduate a diverse student body that is congruent with the university’s vision and mission.
o Advise Student Government Association, conduct orientation and training for newly elected student leaders and manage student government budgets; create a responsible, effective and transparent budget procedure and allocation process.
o Develop, manage, and facilitate leadership co-curricular certification programs, leadership development opportunities, and the annual off-campus, weekend-long Ignite Leadership Retreat.
o Work with on- and off-campus partners to develop community service opportunities for groups of students to earn volunteer hours and manage the on-campus care pantry that benefits and serves the student body.
o Aid in large-scale campus traditions such as Homecoming, Welcome Week, Spring Fling, Cord & Ring Ceremony, and Trailblazer 360.
