The Student Accessibility & Accommodations office’s mission is to advance access for the whole student and we are passionate about achieving our goal! Services are provided to all students, collaborating with them to identify learning solutions that accommodate diverse learning styles, and partnering with faculty to address learning challenges so students have access to resources that facilitate their success. The Director of Student Accessibility and Accommodation (SAA) develops and delivers innovative vision and direction to student services delivery, as well as administrative and fiscal oversight of the office. Responsibilities include:

  • Collaborate with colleagues in Academic Affairs and Student Affairs to ensure the highest quality of services are provided to students in order to ensure holistic services and support for students with disabilities.
  • Lead efforts to increase visibility of, sensitivity to and inclusion of students with differing abilities.
  • Supervise and evaluate professional staff responsible for providing student disability accommodation, access consulting, testing accommodations, and deploying appropriate assistive technology.
  • Conduct needs assessments and make strategic plans to meet student needs, develop program policies and procedures, and outreach to consult with campus and community members.
  • Train campus community members on topics related to disability support.
  • Develop and administer the department budget.
  • Provide overall supervision of services and programs administered by the office, including coordinating and providing academic accommodations, emotional support animals, and housing/dining accommodations for students with disabilities.
  • Oversee the implementation and management of the electronic recordkeeping system (AIM) and database service for office management
  • Oversee the review of student files submitted to determine appropriate accommodations including reviewing and auditing decisions made by team members to ensure consistency.
  • Communicate with students and external experts like healthcare providers, evaluators and clinicians, to obtain additional information to determine accommodation and service needs
  • Track student success, persistence, grades, and registrations of students served in the office in order to report trends and developing issues, providing guidance and solutions to institutional leadership.
  • Provide direct accommodation services to students by evaluating their accompanying documentation, issuing accommodation guidance on accessibility and accommodation to members of the university community, and engaging faculty and other campus partners about specific student accommodations through standardized disability communications.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with other departments on campus to address needs of students with disabilities.
  • Participate in University-wide efforts to promote access and equal opportunity for students with disabilities, contributing to University-wide initiatives that focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion and advocating for accessibility issues on our campus.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in social work, special education, counseling, psychology, rehabilitation education or a closely related field.
  • 5 years of related experience, with increasing levels of responsibility, providing services and access to individuals with disabilities.
  • Sufficient experience supervising professional level staff. Supervisory experience in higher education is preferred, but not required.
  • Demonstrated experience with assessing student needs, effectiveness of accommodations, and student learning outcomes is desired.
  • Demonstrated innovative and visionary leadership, with successful strategic planning and tangible outcomes in accordance with the mission of a broader institution or agency.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in conflict resolution and basic mediation skills.
  • Experience working in college and university settings related to student behavioral intervention.
  • Demonstrated experience establishing and maintaining effective relationships with faculty members.
  • Fluency in one of the following languages: ASL, Hmong, Somali, Vietnamese
