The World Banks Vice Presidency of Development Economics (DEC) seeks to recruit a Reproducible Research Assistant (Extended Term Temporary) to support the project Improving Reproducibility in the World Bank Policy Research Working Paper Series. The Research Senior Assistant will support DEC efforts to increase reproducible research practices and to verify the computational reproducibility of submissions to the Policy Research Working Paper Series (PRWPS).

We seek a candidate who is passionate about reproducible research and open science and has excellent data skills. The candidate will have expertise in a variety of statistical software and data science tools and familiarity with development economics research. Since most of the data analysis in papers published to PRWPS is done with Stata or R, proficiency in both software and programming languages is strongly preferred; advanced skill in either one or the other is required. Proficiency with GitHub is strongly preferred as we use the platform to conduct the checks. Familiarity with other languages such as Python, MATLAB, SAS, SPSS, Fortran, and Julia is a plus.

The Reproducible Research Senior Assistant will be mapped to the Development Impact Evaluation (DIME) department and will be part of the DIME Analytics team. DIME Analytics creates tools that improve the quality of impact evaluation research for all. They take advantage of the concentration and scale of research at DIME to develop and test solutions to ensure high quality of data collection and research quality across our portfolio, and to make public training and tools available to the larger community of development researchers who might not have the same capabilities. DIME Analytics objective is to ensure that DIMEs analytical work is high-quality, transferable, and replicable and to improve research quality globally through out public goods.

The Research Assistant will be responsible for implementing reproducibility verifications for World Bank research. S/he will verify that the packages are complete, that the code runs, and that the outputs exactly match those provided in the research paper. In case they do not match, the Research Assistant will try to troubleshoot. S/he will work closely with the Research Analyst managing the reproducibility verification process. The Research Assistant will support development and delivery of trainings to promote reproducible research and open science across the WBG.

Role & Responsibilities:

The Reproducible Research Assistant will have the following responsibilities:

1.Implement reproducibility checks to verify the computational reproducibility of research submitted to the PRWPS

2.Publish reproducibility packages in the new reproducible research repository, entering metadata and coordinating with the authors and publication team to release the package

3.Support occasional more in-depth code reviews and provide feedback to researchers on ways to improve the efficiency, accuracy, and transferability of their code.

4.Support and actively promote the adoption of reproducible research and open science practices by World Bank researchers.
