Events Coordinator
Events Coordinator Posting Shuswap Immigrant Services Society (SISS) is seeking a temporary part-time, Events Coordinator. This position is 12 hours per week from February to July at a rate of $25.00 per hour. The position may be extended if funding becomes available. SISS is a non-profit organization that assists and empowers Shuswap immigrants. Encouraging participation in community life and assisting new Canadians in settlement are key elements of organizational work. SISS offers service in multiple languages and works directly with immigrants, creating strong relationships and building community. Position: The events Coordinator supports the SISS mission by working in a team environment to support the organizing of the SISS events. Primary events include the annual Gathering Together Festival and the Shuswap Anti-racism Campaign, but smaller events are also included in this position. The events Coordinator facilitates opportunities for connection and interaction with the broader community through collaboration. Outreach and building partnerships with other non-profit community organizations and local businesses will be an important component for success. Duties and Responsibilities: * Lead and support community outreach to build partnerships and awareness throughout the region. * Assist individuals from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds in a culturally sensitive manner. * Collaborate with clients, staff, and community partners to identify relevant activities and workshops for clients * Create, coordinate, and host workshops, activities, and events. * Promote events and activities through social media and engaging with local media * Facilitate community involvement in SISS events and campaigns to broaden the reach of the organization and build awareness * Coordinate and manage the annual Gathering Together Festival and the ongoing Anti-racism campaign * Build community partnership and attend meetings as needed * Fundraise for festival sponsorship * Maintain accurate records and documentation, such as attendance, to assist with reporting to funders * Collaborate closely with other programs both in-house and in the community. * Other related duties as required. Skills and Abilities * Demonstrated understanding of the immigrant and newcomer experience * Experience organizing events both online and in-person * Posses strong interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills * Posses excellent English verbal and written communication abilities * Ability to work well with others in a collaborative team setting * Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain respectful and professional relationships * Demonstrated computer proficiency and in-depth knowledge of social media platforms * Highly organized, tactful, versatile, and flexible * Experience working independently * Fluency in a second language an asset Applicants must also possess Permanent Resident Status or Canadian Citizenship and be willing to submit to a Criminal record check as a condition of employment.
