Department Summary | The Center for Human Identification (CHI) is an accredited forensic laboratory on the campus of The University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth. With funding from the State of Texas and various Federal Government agencies, CHI supports forensic DNA testing, anthropological examinations, local CODIS operations, training, and various research and development initiatives. CHI also manages the Texas Missing Persons DNA Database. |

Minimum Qualifications |
BA/BS in biology, chemistry or forensic science related discipline; completed nine credit hours of college coursework (preferably at the graduate level) in molecular biology, genetics, and biochemistry; and completed a three semester credit hour (or equivalent) college level statistics course from an accredited university or a program approved by the Texas Forensic Science Commission. |

Job Duties
o | Complete training and demonstrate competency in technologies and procedures utilized by UNTCHI. |

o | Perform casework examination following all quality assurance policies and procedures. |

o | Perform evidence examination and documentation. |
---|
o | Conduct DNA analysis procedures including DNA extraction, DNA quantification, amplification, sequencing, and capillary electrophoresis. |

o | Perform autosomal STR, Y-STR, and mitochondrial DNA analysis on missing persons casework samples. |
---|
o | Perform technical review, genetic comparisons including kinship analysis, statistical calculations and report generation. |
---|
o | Provide expert witness testimony as required. |
---|
o | Maintain proficiency in autosomal STR, Y-STR, and mitochondrial DNA analysis procedures and data analysis. |

o | Meet continuing education requirements and review current scientific literature. |
