Job Description

The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting a reliable candidate for a long-term Graduate Assistant position at the Nevada Center for Applied Research (NCAR). The graduate student will support business operations for NCAR with exposure to basic business operations in entrepreneurial support, university accounting and finance, and lab inventory. Familiarity with Workday and Knowledge Base is an asset, but not required, with an emphasis on finance, business operations and/or digital record management. Administrative training will be provided to orient the candidate to tasks such as keeping online systems up to date, but independent work is then expected. 

As a graduate student assistant in this office, you will be an integral part of the department’s workflow. You will report to the Director of NCAR and will be asked to provide any additional support when NCAR staff require assistance. This may involve providing courteous customer service, replying to phone and email inquiries, performing data entry, and other office duties, such as filing documents, sorting mail and performing campus errands. This position would be a perfect fit for business students, but candidates from all majors are welcome to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Creating reports related to NCAR business operations as directed

  • Invoicing and billing for NCAR-related services

  • Assisting with ad-hoc requests as directed  

  • Logging, routing, copying, scanning, filing, and delivering various documents and communications

  • Creating and maintaining basic Excel spreadsheets and Word documents 

  • Assist with inventorying campus laboratories including NCAR laboratories

  • Data entry and database maintenance

Required Qualifications

  • Candidate must be a graduate student in a Master’s program at UNR

  • To be eligible for an assistantship, students must be admitted to a degree-granting program and be in good academic standing

  • The student must have an overall GPA of at least 3.0 and must be continuously enrolled in at least 6 graduate level credits (600-700) throughout the duration of the assistantship

  • This position requires good communication skills, the ability to follow direction, adaptive learning capabilities and maintaining confidentiality

  • The individual must be detail oriented, organized, efficient, and reliable

  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite

Preferred Qualifications

Some or intermediate-level knowledge of any of the following

  • Adobe Acrobat

  • Microsoft Excel

  • Microsoft Access

  • Workday

Expected hours to work per week: Up to 20, based on class schedule
