Job Description:

Purpose of the position:

The Bio-fortified Value Chains for Improved Maternal and Child Nutrition in Burundi (B4MCN) project is funded by the Australian NGO Cooperation Programme (ANCP) of the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) through WV Australia. The project will be implemented over five years, targeting 6 communes (Gashoho, Gasorwe, Buhinyuza, Muyinga, Gitaramuka and Vumbi) in 3 provinces Muyinga, Karusi and Kirundo in north-eastern Burundi. It intends to tackle high levels of chronic malnutrition in Burundi by building upon the highly successful previous Economic Development and Value Chain in Muyinga project funded by ANCP to address the root causes of malnutrition, namely household poverty, poor dietary diversity, lack of micronutrient rich foods and poor nutrition knowledge and practices.

The purpose of this position is to lead the B4MCN food production, marketing, and value chain interventions, to manage and supervise the operations by coordinating the project implementation, monitoring and evaluation in the assigned province.

In order to successfully do so, the Grant Supervisor Agronomy and Value Chain must also be able to effectively communicate World Visions Christian ethos and demonstrate a quality of spiritual life that serves as an example to others

Major Responsibilities:

  • Organize, plan, coordinate and supervise the implementation of the projects activities related to food production, marketing and value chain, as per the approved budgets, scope & timeline at province level
  • Ensure that all recruited staff are trained and oriented on project approaches and activities, reporting tools & documentation;
  • Provide on- job mentoring and coaching for project staff for timely implementation of project activities at provincial level
  • Provide adequate coordination of planned studies (baseline, midterm, and project evaluation surveys) and supervise the M&E staff in close collaboration with other external partners at provincial level
  • Guided by Grant Manager, monitor the use of business process implementation is aligned with WV, donor and other relevant standards
  • When delegated by Grant Manager, participate in the institutional learning initiatives for the establishment of efficient information systems
  • Support Grant Manager to establish strategic networks/partnerships at local and provincial levels in food assistance and production and productive.
  • Support Grant Manager to organize and facilitate regular project coordination meetings at province level and participate in the national coordination and project learning forums
  • Provide inputs to Grant Manager for monthly reports for WVs internal records
  • Provide inputs to Project Manager for quarterly, annual and final project reports at provincial level
  • With Grant Manager, represent WVB in provincial and national meetings/workshops related to food production and value chain

Qualifications: Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience

  • At least Agronomist A1 or Bachelor in Community Development; reliable experience in coordinating production and food assistance in during humanitarian crisis
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience working with Non-Governmental Organizations in Food Security and/or Value Chain

Other Competencies/Attributes:

  • Fluency in French, Kirundi, and English
  • Advanced project management skills and good understanding of the project life cycle
  • Good understanding of best practices in food security and community development in emergency response
  • Experience with development project management tools such as log frames, monitoring and evaluation tools and budgets
  • Excellent supervision skills, including training, mentoring and supporting staff
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills, including report-writing and formal communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office and Lotus Notes (or another main email system such as Microsoft Outlook)
  • Cross-cultural sensitivity, flexible worldview, and ability to work with a wide range of people from different backgrounds
  • Emotional and spiritual maturity and ability to lead a team of professionals
  • Good understanding of World Vision and Sphere relief standards
  • Knowledge of and adherence to the Red Cross and NGO Code of Conduct
  • Commitment to World Vision Core Values and Mission Statement
  • High level of integrity and ability to exhibit exemplary lifestyle as interpreted in specific local cultural context
  • Ability to work under stressful conditions

Working Environment / Conditions:

  • Domestic Travel: Regular internal travel to project areas is required
