COTS, a nonprofit recognized nationally as a model for innovative programs, provides emergency shelter, services, and housing for those who are without homes or who are at risk of homelessness.
COTS Housing Resource Specialist works directly with COTS clients who are without homes or who are at risk of becoming homeless to assist them in overcoming financial barriers to housing. They will work directly with families and individuals to identify eligibility and apply for resources which may stabilize their housing, while also directly communicating with landlords and housing partners.
Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to: conducting initial client intake and assessment to identify immediate, short-term needs; determine eligibility for resources and support services, both within COTS and with community partner agencies; provide information, referrals and advocacy for housing, public benefits, and other supportive services that will increase their housing stability; work with clients to complete appropriate applications/forms and keep track of status; facilitate consistent, clear and timely communication between clients and landlords; and track client information in our Homeless Management Information System (HMIS).
This role requires the ability to build and maintain professional relationships with clients, community partners, and landlords.
Minimum of HS degree or equivalent required; BSW or BA in a related field strongly preferred. At least one year of related experience required; experience with creating budget plans and financial management preferred. A combination of coursework and experience will also be considered. Must be comfortable using Microsoft Excel. Strong candidates will have experience with individuals experiencing homelessness and crisis intervention, as well as knowledge of resources and services for individuals and families. This includes federal and state housing subsidy programs and affordable housing systems. Ability to work with individuals with mental health, medical, substance abuse and employment issues required.
