Department Summary The mission of the Division of Research & Innovation is to assist all components of the research enterprise at the University of North Texas Health Science Center.
Position Summary HSC Next at the University of North Texas Health Science Center is seeking to hire Intern, Innovation Ecosystems. The position will support efforts to stimulate the local ecosystem of innovators, entrepreneurs, funders, service organizations and government entities involved in building partnerships, fostering innovation, and launching companies. The intern will assess the local innovation and entrepreneurial ecosystems and support the Innovation Ecosystems team in the development and implementation of programs to make Fort Worth a more recognized hub for innovation and startup activity. The intern will help design, host, plan and execute programs focused on increasing entrepreneurial awareness, promoting a culture of innovation, and increasing collisions between investors, researchers and entrepreneurs. The intern will play an integral role in events such as Global Entrepreneurship Week, Startup Weekend, Startup Crawl, State of Entrepreneurship and other events during the semester.
Responsibilities will include, but won’t be limited to:
– will work with UNTHSC as a liaison to resources, contacts, talent, programs and educational opportunities in the Fort Worth and North Texas community that are necessary to build partnerships, facilitate the transfer of innovations to market, and foster entreprenuership.
– Will assist in relevant data gathering activities (new firm starts, jobs created, startup density, growth rates, etc.) on the health of the regional ecosystems.
– will assist in the planning and execution of programs (on- and off-campus) to stimulate the local ecosystem and establish UNTHSC as the institutional leader in the Ft Worth innovation and entrepreneurial culture.

Minimum Qualifications The successful candidate will have a basic understanding of innovation, commercialization, entrepreneurship, community building and resource management. They will have working knowledge of data on economic development, job creation, startup density and new firm formation. Strong event planning, social media and organizational skills will be a must. Expertise in entrepreneurial community building, graphic design and event planning software tools are a plus.
Preferred Qualifications A high school diploma and some experience in college is preferred. A demonstration of past experience and knowledge of programs to stimulate innovation, commercialization, and/or entrepreneurial ecosystems is preferred. A working knowledge of basic terms in business and startup lexicon is required.
