Org. Setting and Reporting

This position is located in the Investigations Division (ID) of the Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS) in New York. The Investigations Assistant will report to the Chief of the Operational Standards and Support Section, OIOS ID office in New York or their designee.

The Office of Internal Oversight Services is an independent office reporting to the Secretary-General and to the General Assembly. The Investigations Division follows up on reports of possible violations of regulations or rules, mismanagement, misconduct, waste of resources, or abuse of authority.

Responsibilities

The¿Investigations Assistant may be responsible for any of the following duties:¿

•Assist in the planning, organization and conduct of investigations of alleged violations of United Nations Regulations and Rules, and pertinent administrative issuances specifically related to Intake
•Assist in investigation fact-finding to identify information and establish evidence, produce and submit investigation reports to appropriate authorities, and conduct post-investigation tasks
•As required, coordinate, collaborate, and consult with United Nations and other relevant authorities throughout the investigation process
•Assist with the preparation of reports and documentation, including statistical or investigative findings, drafting annual and semi-annual reports, and in responding to requests from intergovernmental bodies within the United Nations system. Coordinate meetings to review investigations and related subjects
•Conduct investigation-related activities, including: monitoring the OIOS hotline and recording incoming calls and complaints according to investigation standards; managing and maintaining the Investigations Division Case Management System; assisting with tasks pertaining to the provision of transcription services, including: monitoring incoming requests for transcription, responding to transcription-related queries and providing information to investigators, and liaising with vendors as required by established procedures
•Assists with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision making.
•Assists with visualizations and updating information material such as web pages or brochures.
•Perform other duties as required.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent.

Work Experience

A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in police, military, other governmental, non-governmental, or private organizations, including in administration in support of investigations, is required.

Experience working with an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software, such as SAP or a similar software, is desirable.

Experience working in and as part of an investigative team is desirable.

Experience using analytical or investigative software is desirable.

One year or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of French is desirable. Knowledge of another official language of the United Nations is an advantage.

Assessment

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by a competency-based interview.

This post is financed by the regular budget. The appointment, or assignment, and renewal thereof are subject to the availability of the post or funds, budgetary approval, or extension of the mandate. Appointment or assignment against this position is for an initial period of one year.
