About the role
You will work collaboratively within the ITS Security team to ensure the protection of information assets, systems and services. Your position purpose will be to search for vulnerabilities and risks in hardware and software, and contribute to the management and monitoring of cyber security attacks and intrusions.
Flexibility will be required regarding work hours, ensuring a timely response to problems as they arise.
You will:
- monitor day-to-day activities, identifying and responding to security events by analysing logs and other data sources and initiating investigations;
- conduct regular vulnerability assessments of University information assets;
- implement the University’s security framework, reviewing existing security infrastructure and practices and making recommendations for improvements and enhancements; and
- monitor security alerts and traffic for both on premise and cloud-based services.

About you
You will understand and address security issues associated with modern network systems, including Firewalls, IDP’s, VPN’s, anti-virus products, a variety of operating systems. You will have previous experience with using Microsoft event and security logging, log management systems, SIEM (Security Information and Event Management) systems and good documentation skills.
You will possess:
- ability to analyse detailed and complex log files to identify possible anomalies and unusual activities;
- experience in programming skills in languages including perl, python, powershell and bash;
- ability to develop written reports, guidelines, policies and procedures and the ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical staff; and
- ability to translate complex business requirements into effective technical solutions.
