The Water Quality Research Group is working on overcoming some of the most challenging issues in water environment making responsible use of the great opportunities that nanotechnology offers.
We are looking for a Junior Research Fellow to work on a collaborative project, which is FRONTSH1P project that form part of the call “Building a low-carbon, climate resilient future: Research and Innovation in support of the European Green Deal (H2020-LC-GD-2020)”. One of the main objectives is the demonstration of circular systematic solutions (CSSs) for the descarbonisation and territorial regeneration in Lodzkie (Poland) region. The Water Quality group at INL takes part of the CSS3: Water&Nutrients in the development and integration of SERS-based sensor for the monitoring of the performance of microalgae based-wastewater treatment.
The selected researcher will collaborate with with international multidisciplinary teams with expertise in SERS sensors, microsystems and microfabrication technology, surface chemistry, microfluidics, wastewater treatments, microalgae-based natural solution.
1. Develop innovative SERS sensors for the monitoring of dissolved CO2 in microalgae-based wastewater system;
2. Develop and integrate robust sensors solutions with microfluidic and electronics;
3. Validation of the SERS sensors by design a lab-scaled microalgae-based reactor;
4. Produce several technical and scientific documentation and work planning;
5. Report R&D activities for project documentation including deliverables and presentations;
6. Contribute to publish research in high impact journals.
- MSc degree in MSc in Nanotechnology, Material science, Chemistry, Biochemistry or similar.
Experience & Technical Skills
- Experience in surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) and SERS substrate design.
Experience in synthesis and characterization of nanomaterials (i.e. electron microscopies, X-Ray diffraction (XRD), UV-Vis-NIR spectroscopy, dynamic light scattering, and sample preparation).
- Experience in surface and analytical chemistry.
- Experience in microalgae cultivation.
- Experience in microfluidics (fabrication and modelling).
Strong motivation to work both independently and as part of a team in an interdisciplinary environment.
Highly organised and dynamic.
