Summary of Job Duties:
The Orthopaedic & Spine Hospital (TOSH) is a new, state-of-the-art facility currently under construction on UAMS’ Little Rock campus. Opening in May of 2023, the four-story, 158,000 square-foot hospital will represent our vision of patient-centered, technologically advanced care that creates healthier, more active tomorrows for our patients and communities. In a facility designed for and dedicated to the delivery of exceptional orthopaedic and spine care—with nationally-recognized surgical outcomes— The Orthopaedic & Spine Hospital at UAMS Health will serve the community, region, and world for decades to come.
This position works under the supervision of the section Supervisor and Senior Tech. This position provides comprehensive support for patient care activities in the Core Lab. This positions schedule could change due to staffing issues with a two week notice.
Qualifications:
Minimum:

High School, GED or formal education equivalent
-
Ability to follow oral instruction, read and write.

Computer/basic keyboard skills.
-
Telephone etiquette skills.
-
Must have excellent customer service skills.
Preferred:
- 1 year of experience in a medical laboratory.
Responsibilities:
-
Receives specimens from all sources and verifies that specimens are properly collected and labeled.
-
Receives specimens through the pneumatic tube station and window, scan and receive specimens into the EPIC system, re-label specimens, process add on test, order requested test from outside institutions into the EPIC system. Reconcile packing list, verifies test, load specimens onto the automation lines, deliver specimens to the performing departments.

Centrifuge specimens and create packing list for transportation. Monitor refrigerator temps. Receive and store blood products. Pack up blood product for return to blood bank
-
Ensure test is received in the correct tube type.
-
Sorts all specimens and place them in the proper racks or bucket to be received.
-
Load racks on the appropriate automation line to be received in and tested.
-
Scan specimens into the EPIC system and re-label the specimens as needed.
-
Enter orders into EPIC through requisition entry for all outside institutions.
-
Process add-on test.
-
Answers phone calls concerning results, faxing reports, specimen collection and ordering test.
-
Process 24 hour urines and mail-in specimens
-
Reconcile packing list.
-
Process Reference, VA and ACH specimens.
-
Process and store or send out Reference Test, VA samples and ACH test
-
Process mail-in specimens.
-
Scan requisitions received with labs from institutional accounts into EPIC.
-
Call critical results as needed.
-
Fill out all Safety Intelligence reports and deliver to the Core Lab Manager.
TOSH:
-
Receive and store blood products.
-
Pack up unused blood products for return to blood bank.
-
Monitor refrigerator temps.
-
Centrifuge and pack up specimens.
-
Create packing list for specimen transport.
-
Retrieve specimens from designated drop spot(s) and deliver to Blood Bank tech.
-
Transport specimens and blood products to UAMS main campus lab.
-
Transport blood products from UAMS main campus to TOSH.
-
DOT training required to drive transportation vehicle
-
Performs a variety of routine work within established policies and procedures, and receives detailed instructions on new projects and assignments.
