Specific qualifications & experience required

Under the direct supervision of the Chief of the Resilience & Livelihoods Unit, the incumbent will perform the following responsibilities:

  • Support WFP Programming with a particular view to asset creation, building resilience, and natural resource management;
  • Project delivery and operational support to G5 Sahel COs, and to coastal countries as needed; Support to COs in developing project proposals (technical aspects, activity selection and planning, timelines and budgets);
  • Support adoption of innovative solutions for low-cost water harvesting infrastructure and approaches, including but not restricted to: Gabions (local production, training and small enterprises development), vegetable gardens, low-cost drip irrigation, pottery/pitcher irrigation, aquaculture;
  • Support project implementation and coordination in COs in implementation of integrated resilience projects; Institutional development support to strengthen CO structures to sustain scale up dynamics;
  • Assist in advocacy and fundraising efforts to scale up, in general, the resilience and livelihoods activities in the region, and, in particular, the support functions of RLU to Country Offices;
  • In priority countries (Sahel region and targeted coastal COs), assist the development of specific proposals, and support to initiatives that strengthen linkages with gender, nutrition, value chains (SAMS/P4P), etc;
  • Participate and carry out online and on-the job FFA trainings on specific innovations;
  • Perform other related duties as required.


You have:

  • Master’s degree in one or more of the following disciplines: Agriculture, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Studies, Civil and Environmental Engineering;
  • Should you not find your university degree in this link kindly note that it will be your responsibility to obtain a formal letter from your Ministry of Education stating their recognition of the university and degree.


You have:

  • At least (5) years of progressively responsible professional post-graduate experience in Natural Resource Management, International Development, Urban and Rural Development, Social Protection and Food Security and Nutrition;
  • Experience with water works and infrastructure implementation, watershed management and planning, participatory approaches and community-led change projects; food security, nutrition programmes and safety nets is desirable.


  • Fluency (level C in reading, writing, and speaking) in French OR Fluency (level C in reading, writing, and speaking) in English-i.e. both French Speaking and or English Speaking applicants encouraged to apply.

You have developed the following Knowledge & Skills

  • Good analytical skills; resourcefulness, initiative, maturity of judgement, tact, negotiating skills; ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing; ability to work in a team, and establish effective working relations with persons of different national and cultural backgrounds;
  • Ability to cope with situations which may threaten health or safety; flexibility in accepting work assignments outside normal desk description. Ability to deal patiently and tactfully with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.
