Anti-Slavery Australia provides access to legal advice through the engagement of JM Burn Solicitor.

About the Role

The Anti-Slavery Australia team are recruiting for a Lawyer to join their team in a full-time capacity for a 2-year contract. The Lawyer is accountable for providing casework and advice, including complex casework, to survivors of modern slavery within a migration, human rights and legal framework, and supporting the running of the legal practice by developing procedures and contributing to law reform and other activities of the centre.

With examples, please outline in a separate document how you meet the following five (5) key selection criteria points:

  • Ability to relate productively and sensitively to vulnerable and traumatised people, from a range of cultural backgrounds, in the provision of legal services.
  • A high degree of adaptability and the ability to effectively problem solve when confronted with complex legal matters.
  • Manage a large volume of client data and documentation in line with legal requirements, including ensuring the regular update and maintenance of client database.
  • Demonstrated knowledge or ability to acquire knowledge, across a range of relevant legal areas such as human rights, international and domestic law, forced marriage, human trafficking, slavery, migration, family law and protection orders.
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake and deliver comprehensive and accurate legal research, often within tight timeframes.

In addition to the above criteria, to be considered for a HEW 8 position, the incumbent must also be able to demonstrate the following additional criteria:

  1. Current Unrestricted NSW Solicitors Practicing Certificate (or eligible to obtain)
  2. At least five years’ experience in migration law and practice
  3. Experience in appearing/attending tribunal and court hearings
  4. Experience in supervision and development of staff and/or volunteers or interns

Remuneration & Benefits

Base Salary: $100,695 to $129,017 pa (HEW 7/HEW 8 dependant on experience)

This role attracts 17% superannuation (pension) in addition to the base salary.

This position is full-time and the appointment will be made on a fixed term basis for 2 years.
