Manager – Finance

Salary: $70,000

Hybrid: In-office 4 days a week

Location: Indianapolis, IN

As part of the Foster Success operations team, the Manager of Finance will be responsible for the management and oversight of finance operations including managing financial records, preparing financial statements, ensuring compliance with accounting regulations, implementing accounting policies and procedures, and providing financial reports to management

The Manager of Finance will work closely with the Executive Leadership Team and across the organization to drive efficient management of fiscal resources, monitoring and budget reporting, and ensure proper stewardship of organizational resources.

The Manager of Finance reports to the Chief Operating Officer.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard organization assets and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

  • Manage the day-to-day financial activities of the organization utilizing Quickbooks Online, Bill.com, and Salesforce.

  • Deliver concise and accurate reports on the financial health of the organization to the Executive Leadership team and board.

  • Enhance financial management processes to drive better decisions in support of accelerated growth.

  • Monitor accounting activity and cash flow; provide and reconcile monthly financial reports for all program and management staff.

  • Prepare and manage the annual budgeting process in collaboration with program staff and organizational leadership.

  • Monitor and analyze financial performance against budget, providing regular reports and analysis to the leadership team.

  • Manage cash flow, accounts payable, and accounts receivable processes to optimize working capital management.

  • Oversee the preparation and submission of grant budgets and financial reports to funders, ensuring compliance with grant requirements in coordination with program staff.

  • Coordinate the annual audit process, liaising with external auditors and ensuring timely completion of audit deliverables.

  • Stay informed about changes in accounting standards, nonprofit regulations, and best practices, and ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.

Position Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or advanced degree preferred.

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in nonprofit finance management, including budgeting, financial reporting, and grant management with 3-5 years of progressive leadership experience

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate financial data into actionable insights.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of GAAP concepts, principles, procedures, regulations and reporting requirements

  • Experience with financial management software and systems (e.g., QuickBooks, bill.com).

  • Experience managing deferred revenue, government grant reporting, and invoicing/reimbursable contracts with state agencies

  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy, with a commitment to maintaining high standards of financial integrity.

  • Proven ability to communicate financial information effectively to non-financial stakeholders.

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage competing priorities effectively.

  • Commitment to supporting young adults between the ages of 14-25 from diverse backgrounds and the ability to create inclusive environments for both participants and partners

  • Proven creative problem-solving techniques, openness to change and desire for continual feedback, and an ability to adapt in a rapidly evolving environment

  • Ability to take initiative and work autonomously as needed to achieve departmental goals

  • Ability to represent Foster Success with senior-level partners, agencies, and elected officials.
