Position Description: Northwest Arkansas (NWA) Fayetteville Kiva Hub Capital Access Manager:

The NWA Kiva Hub Capital Access Manager (the “CAM”) is a full-time, salaried position for the Community Venture Foundation, dba Startup Junkie Foundation, working under a three-year grant and its guidelines from the Walton Family Foundation to operate the Kiva Fayetteville Hub, known as the “Kiva NWA Hub” , reporting to Startup Junkie leadership and coordinating with a national Kiva US regional manager. The Kiva CAM will be responsible for delivering on key goals outlined within the program grant at yearly intervals. Kiva is an international non-profit 501(c)3 that offers a business microloan platform and program to the public that provides approved borrowers with access to approximately two million Kiva lenders throughout the world who make small loans ($1,000-$15,000) at 0% interest, with no fees, to uplift underrepresented business borrowers and provide equitable access to capital to US small business owners. This CAM will be expected to work one-on-one in person and via phone, video calls, etc., with clients and prospective clients. The program is designed to serve entrepreneurs and small business owners, especially those who are underrepresented in the entrepreneur community and underserved in terms of financing, including women, people of color, a part of a self-identified minority population, those living with disabilities or personal challenges, immigrants, refugees, those who identify as LGBTQIA, veterans, and those with criminal felony (non-violent) records. The NWA Kiva Hub CAM will oversee the planning of, directing of, and participation in public activities, including events, expos, public speaking engagements to educate community groups about Kiva, conducting application workshops, participating in programs with like-minded entrepreneur support groups, and working with program and event corporate and community sponsors and community lenders. The CAM is also responsible for marketing the Hub to the public with proper content creation and promotion of the Hub via social media channels and a monthly newsletter, as well as planning, producing, and distributing proper marketing materials compliant with the Kiva US program guidelines. Applicants can expect a flexible schedule of approximately 40 hours/week, anticipating that some weeks will require more time and others with less.

License/Certifications/Equipment/Special Requirements:

– Valid Arkansas Driver’s license and auto insurance and reliable vehicle for travel throughout Benton and Washington counties

– High-school diploma or GED

– Social Security number and US Citizenship or valid Permanent Resident Documentation

– Ownership of a reliable and functional laptop computer with the entire Microsoft Office Suite of software, Adobe PDF software, and a cell phone and cell phone number publicly shared for conducting meetings with the Startup Junkie team and clients ($47 monthly reimbursement allowed for such use for business purposes, a second new line may be added to your personal account if you so choose).

– The Startup Junkie team works on a hybrid in-office and work-from-home structure, but the CAM position may not be performed entirely remote, and the CAM will be expected to work in office in person depending on team needs and directions of the Kiva Hub supervisor.

– The CAM must have access at home to a reliable Wi-Fi network.

– The CAM must be able to lift and carry equipment and materials and food/drinks needed for events and workshops up to 30 pounds and transport such items in a personal vehicle and via stairs and an elevator at various locations.

Skills Requirements/ Candidate Should be Proficient with:

– Microsoft Office Suite of Software Programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)

– Adobe Acrobat, Canva, Mailchimp, and other content creation software programs for producing marketing materials

– Google Drive Suite of software programs

– Zoom

-Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn platforms for planning, producing and distributing proper marketing materials and content compliant with the Kiva US program guidelines

– Proper collecting, organization and reporting skills for reporting required grant metrics, budget reporting and proper documentation of grant expenditures, goals, borrower/client contacts and meetings, and multiple data entries in varied online systems.

Essential Job Functions Required for All Applicants:

Maintain client confidentiality, manage all aspects of the Kiva borrower experience, recruit and review interested loan applicants, recruit new micro-lenders in the community to the Kiva platform, monitor metrics to ensure borrowers are meeting Kiva’s goals and the goals of the Hub’s grant, provide technical assistance to borrowers and community lenders, aid borrowers throughout the fundraising process, assist borrowers in writing about their business and campaign, implement and work with borrowers on Kiva’s repayment strategy and engage borrowers in conversations regarding repayments, and routine monthly outreach efforts to borrowers. Participation is mandatory in a monthly national Kiva US meeting via Zoom with CAMs from all over the United States.

Candidates should present the following skills and verifiable experience:

  • Solid organizational and time management skills, prompt in returning phone calls and scheduling appointments
  • Proficient in writing and verbal communication
  • Proficiency in using social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc., to promote a business or organization
  • Proficiency in networking and engaging with the Northwest Arkansas community.
  • At least two years’ experience in a related field such as entrepreneurial support, economic development and support, banking and finance, business insurance, public social work or government or nonprofit project management, or successful small business ownership and operation.
  • An enthusiastic and passionate attitude about serving persons from varied backgrounds and lifestyles and growing the Northwest Arkansas entrepreneur community for all. While candidates will receive formal training on the Kiva platform by the Kiva US team, they should familiarize themselves with Kiva and microlending as they prepare their applications and before interviews for this position.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Bilingual – English and Spanish – to converse with the public and Kiva loan applicants, and fluent in both languages in written communication to prepare promotional materials and to correspond with potential Kiva borrowers via email
  • Professional work experience with small business owners with diverse backgrounds for two years
  • Proven ability to speak in public to large audiences and operate AV equipment for presentations online and in person

Schedule:

  • An 8-hour work shift is typical but expect some longer and shorter days depending on event schedules and Kiva borrower needs
  • The Startup Junkie office is open Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., but some meetings each week may fall outside of that timeframe in order to assist clients in need of accommodations, there will be at least two to three events on a Saturday and weeknights each month, occasional early morning (before 9 am) travel and events occasionally as well for events and speaking engagements to promote the Kiva program regionally in Northwest Arkansas

  • Flexible, hybrid in-office and work-from-home structure with attendance expected based on the schedule of events and team needs as determined by the Kiva NWA supervisor and/or the foundation director
  • Off-site meetings with clients at their place of business can be expected in Northwest Arkansas and speaking engagements in public locations throughout the region to small and large crowds
