JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Coordinator sought to manage Allegheny Grass Fed Cooperative in Northwestern Pennsylvania under direction of Cooperative Board. A group of farmers in Northwestern Pennsylvania is looking for a Coordinator to help promote, grow and manage Allegheny Grass-Fed, a local grass-fed meat marketing cooperative created in 2021. Allegheny Grass Fed will follow the 7 principles of cooperatives, which are (1) open, nondiscriminatory, voluntary membership; (2) democratic member control; (3) members’ economic participation; (4) independent, i.e. controlled by membership; (5) provide education, training and information; (6) work together with other cooperatives to further economic democracy; (7) concern for the community. The Coordinator will operate independently under guidance from the Cooperative Board, run a diverse marketing and promotion campaign, manage and process orders through an on-line marketing platform, keep accounts, facilitate customer and member relations and organize and facilitate board and membership meetings. He/she may be asked to participate in farmers markets and other in person venues to develop a producer and customer base for the Cooperative and will help promote the cooperative through a variety of channels, including through promotional materials, a website, social media and at field days and events. This is a part-time position starting at 20 hours per week. After a start-up period of 10 months, the position is expected to transition from Penn State to Allegheny Grass Fed.
Job Requirements:
We are looking for an outgoing, self-motivated person with excellent verbal / written communication skills, organizational skills, expertise in purchasing/sales/marketing, computer, and other skills needed to organize a multi-media promotion campaign for grass-fed meat. The Coordinator should have a strong interest in the sustainable food movement, think outside of the box, have an entrepreneurial spirit and be able to provide creative solutions. Interested persons should be able to lift weights of 30-50 lbs with or without accommodation, must have a valid driver’s license and vehicle and be willing to travel. Expenses will be reimbursed per University policy. A Motor Vehicle Records check as well as standard background checks will be required.
