Works with faculty, staff, and students in the Terrestrial Wildlife Ecology Laboratory in the Ohio State University School of Environment and Natural Resources and external collaborators to design, develop, and implement field sampling and data collection protocols to document wildlife benefits of wetland restoration projects in the Lake Erie watershed of northwestern Ohio. Works remotely with project collaborators (e.g. Winous Point Marsh Conservancy, Great Lakes Audubon, and the LEARN wetland monitoring network). Primary responsibilities are to develop a stratified wetland sampling design, develop and implement field data collection protocols, supervise field crews, and summarize and analyze landscape characteristics, vegetation data, and occupancy/abundance of waterfowl, web-less marsh birds, and other wetlands-dependent wildlife species. Reviews and shares published literature on wetland bird habitat relationships and ecological functions and values of wetland restorations. Other responsibilities include assisting with preparation of grant proposals, authors or co-authors manuscripts for publication, or oral presentations at professional meetings. Seeks opportunities to contribute to teaching, research, and, outreach mission of the academic unit when possible. Other research-related duties as assigned.

Required qualifications: Completed Ph.D. in wildlife/animal ecology and knowledge or professional experience and interest in wetlands wildlife and aquatic ecosystems.  Proficient with quantitative analyses, statistical computing, and geographic information systems. Excellent writing and oral communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a research team. Must be able to operate small watercraft, utility vehicles, and possess a valid state driver’s license. Willingness to learn new skills, develop new knowledge, and commitment to professional development/advancement are highly desired attributes.
