Postdoctoral Research Scientist in Blood-Brain Barrier Biology

“Advanced 3D blood-brain barrier (BBB)-on-a-chip platforms to study molecular mechanisms of neurodegeneration”

Full-time, Fixed-term for 2 years

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist to work on a new project to develop 3D in vitro model systems that will enable studying blood-brain barrier (dys)function in neurodegenerative diseases using human iPSC derived cells and primary cells.

Duties will include maintenance and differentiation of iPSC-derived glial and neuronal and cell lines; design and build bespoke 3D in vitro models; using commercially available microfluidic devices, undertaking laboratory experiments; developing new scientific techniques; interpretation of data; imaging analysis; preparation of data for publication; contribute to wider project planning and determine the most appropriate methodologies to test hypotheses. You will have excellent practical experience of neuronal cell cultures and a good knowledge of cellular models of neurodegenerative disease. The ability to innovate, trouble-shoot technical problems, be meticulous in practical work and in record keeping is essential.

You will have excellent practical experience of working with cell cultures, using iPSC models of neurons and glial cells, and knowledge of cellular models of neurodegenerative disease and 3D cultures. The ability to innovate, trouble-shoot technical problems, be meticulous in practical work and in record keeping is also essential. Applicants must hold, or be near completion of, a PhD/DPhil in a relevant area of research and have experience in cellular neuroscience, and molecular cell biology relevant to analysis of neuronal phenotypes.

This fixed-term post is available for 2 years in the first instance to start as soon as possible. The post will be based in the Salman Lab, Kavli Institute for Nanoscience Discovery, Parks Road, Oxford, OX1 3PT.

Informal enquiries may be directed to Dr Mootaz Salman ([email protected])
