This position is located in FAO office in Tando Jam, Sindh province, Pakistan.
The main aim of the FAO country offices, which are headed by FAO Representative, is to assist government to develop policies, programmes and projects to achieve food security and to reduce hunger and malnutrition, to help develop the agricultural, fisheries and forestry sectors and to use their environmental and natural resources in a sustainable manner. 

This position is for the flood response emergency projects in Sindh and Baluchistan projects. The position on SB 4 SC 8 level.

Reporting Lines

Under the overall supervision of FAO Representative in Pakistan and in close coordination with Deputy FAO Representative and Assistant FAOR Programme, the incumbent will report to International Project Coordinator in performance of the following functions:

Technical Focus 

  • Ensure project field team, MEAL unit and government line departments are involved in the  beneficiary selection  based on agreed criteria; 
  • Ensure timely preparation of the technical specifications, obtaining necessary clearances and procuring inputs required under project through procurement unit;
  • Lead provincial teams in rolling out beneficiary selection, developing distribution plan in close consultation with the logistics unit; 

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Accountable to the FAO Representative for the implementation of assigned project (s)
  • Supervise, guide, and monitor the overall activities of the assigned project in accordance with the guidelines of the FAO.
  • Technically supervise the assigned project staff and provides operational guidance accordingly.
  • Timely preparation of the project work plan, procurement plan, logistics, HR and all other related aspects of project implementation;
  • Close monitoring of the implementation of the project work plan, procurement plan, logistics, HR and all other related aspects of project implementation
  • Seek approvals and endorsement of project activities where needed 
  • Develop and maintain liaison with the relevant stakeholders including project donor and governmental focal persons.
  • Lead in the identification of potential project target areas, beneficiary selection and prioritization of field activities and scheduling based on ground priorities, in close collaboration with GAO and government provincial teams.
  • Synchronize the work of all the involved team for the project, such as provincial teams, relevant units of the organization, such as MEAL, IM, communications, operations, procurement, logistics, travel, finance, admin and others; 
  • Prepare and maintain all datasets, periodic reports, document case studies and success stories and share with the communication specialist 
  • Prepare regular updates on work plan implementation status and project reports based on FAO and donor requirements.
  • Monitor and review the project technical and financial progress and share with the supervisor
  • Plan and manage the budget and proposes budget revisions when and if required in close coordination of Operation Unit
  •  Successfully close the project technically and financially, prepare, and submit the final project report after seeking clearances. 
  •  Working on new concepts and supporting formulation of new project
  • Any other duty or task as assigned by the management.

Candidates Will Be Assessed Against The Following

Minimum Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Agriculture, Rural Development, or NRM.
  • Minimum of 5 Years of working experience in agriculture or rural development projects in national and/or international organizations.
  •  Working knowledge of EnglishNational of Pakistan

Technical/Functional Skills

  • Proactive and innovative with the ability to deliver results within tight deadlines
  • Demonstrate capacity to plan, prioritize and deliver tasks on time to meet goals in a high-pressure environment.
  • Remain open to change and ability to manage complexity.
  • Ability to work and act under pressure and with discretion in multicultural environment.
  • Possess strong supervisory, communication, team building and computing skills (word processing, spreadsheets and data-bases).
  • Demonstrable knowledge in the areas of FAO work related with crops, livestock, forestry , fisheries and livelihoods
  • Strong technical and managerial background
  • Excellent report writing skills and strong Communication skills.

  • Candidates will be assessed against the requirements listed above. Preference should be given to local candidates.
