Research Assistant (m/f/d) – AI Aided Autonomous Flying

As a part of the high-tech agenda, the THI is being expanded to become the Bavarian AI Mobility Center. Currently, around 70 scientists are already researching the use of artificial intelligence to shape the mobility of tomorrow. The spectrum ranges from applications of autonomous driving and unmanned flying to digital production. In addition to technology research, research is also being conducted into the ethical and social implications or business models of AI.
Your tasks

Design and responsible implementation of the research project “Collaborative Networking 2D/3D” and Defining scenarios for holistic collaborative networking of autonomous vehicles, a swarm of drones, and production
Building an end-to-end simulation framework with the goal of developing and testing AI-based algorithms for UAVs, setting up a test pad and implementing the algorithms on an embedded systems for UAVs
Support in the acquisition and implementation of third-party funded projects and writing of scientific publications and participation in national and international conferences
A doctoral project is welcomed and supported.

Your profile

Master’s degree or diploma in electrical engineering/aerospace engineering/ mechanical engineering/informatic or comparable field of study
Good understanding of complex scientific-technological interrelationships
Proved background, depending on the specific research area above, preferably in the research field of machine learning, robust distributed navigation systems, path planning, sensor fusion techniques and multi node systems
First experiences with the framework TensorFlow as well as the programming language Python, ideally tool knowledge in Gazebo/ROS
Very good knowledge of German or English (C1), both written and spoken, and strong communication and teamwork skills
