Research Nurse

University of Bristol

tendersglobal.net

Bristol Vaccine Centre (BVC) is a team of doctors, nurses, administrative and laboratory staff working together to develop new, better ways to prevent and treat infectious diseases. We conduct clinical trials to evaluate novel drugs and vaccines and carry out clinical research to find out more about the naturally occurring carriage of bacteria and/or viruses in healthy individuals, and how this changes in illness.

We are seeking applications from motivated, reliable and hard-working individuals to join our friendly team as a Research Nurse supporting a study of respiratory infections presenting to primary care. You will be based at our “hub practice” in Little Stoke but will support recruitment across participating GP practices in the Bristol area. You will lead on screening health records to identify eligible patients, collect data from medical records, evaluate mental capacity of potential participants, and advise colleagues when a participant may need referral to their GP for follow-up of a potential health concern. You will oversee and/or conduct research visits at GP practices or participants’ homes to obtain consent, collect samples and complete questionnaires, so you need to be able to travel independently with the required equipment.

Screen health records to identify eligible patients and carry out mental capacity assessments

-Liaise between study team and GP practice staff, referring patients where health concerns are identified

-Explain study, obtain informed consent, and conduct research visits for study participants

-Coordinate patient-facing activities and oversee work of clinical research practitioners

-Contribute to delivery of project to time and target

-Ensure work is carried out in line with regulatory and legislative requirements, and train other team members

-Make a positive contribution to the team by assisting colleagues and providing cover for team members

– Registered nurse, on NMC register

– Knowledge of mental capacity act

–  Experience explaining research, informed consent discussions and obtaining samples

–  Good IT skills and, ideally, experience of using GP health records (EMIS)

–  Experience coordinating work across a small team and, ideally, line management experience

–  Responsible approach to own work, and ability to work constructively with others to achieve team targets

– Ability and willingness to conduct home visits with the required equipment (UK driving license and use of a car, as public transport is not a realistic option)

–  The ability to speak languages other than English would be advantageous, as the study aims to be as inclusive as possible

Contract type: Open-ended with fixed funding until 31/12/2024

Work pattern: Full Time / 1FTE

Grade: I

Salary: £37,099 – £41,732 per annum

School/Unit: Bristol Medical School

Shift pattern: 35 hours per week

This advert will close at 23:59 GMT on 07/12/2023

We recently launched our strategy  to 2030 tying together our mission, vision and values.

The University of Bristol aims to be a place where everyone feels able to be themselves and do their best in an inclusive working environment where all colleagues can thrive and reach their full potential. We want to attract, develop, and retain individuals with different experiences, backgrounds and perspectives – particularly people of colour, LGBT+ and disabled people – because diversity of people and ideas remains integral to our excellence as a global civic institution.
