Position Summary
We are seeking a motivated professional to join our group researching ways to improve immune cell therapies for cancer. In the last ten years, engineering of human immune cells has led to remarkable breakthroughs in the treatment of cancer. The most successful example is the use of chimeric antigen receptor (CAR)-engineered T cells to treat leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma. Our lab is focused on understanding how CAR engineering impacts normal immune cell function, developing advanced cellular engineering strategies to improve the anti-cancer activity of CAR T cells, and using principles of protein biochemistry and immunology to design more effective cancer-targeting T cells.
We use techniques from classical immunology, advanced genomics, proteomics and bioengineering routinely in our lab. This includes flow cytometry, DNA and RNA sequencing, gene therapy, CRISPR-based genome editing, analysis of human cells, analysis of blood and tumor samples from patients treated at Barnes Jewish Hospital, and protein design and synthesis.

Working Conditions

This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards. The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in immunology or a related field of genomics or protein biology.
  • Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills with an ability to present on various research topics to internal or external audiences.
  • Ability to maintain complete and organized records and reports.
  • Demonstrated ability as a self-starter with strong critical thinking and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability and knowledge of computer software and lab equipment including statistical software, spreadsheets, and lab management systems.
  • Ability to work in lab research environment with the ability to work well with others as part of a cohesive team, take initiative, and creatively problem solve.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated abilities with the Microsoft Office suite.

Required Qualifications

Candidates with prior experience in molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics and/or cell biology with at least a bachelor’s degree are encouraged to apply.
