Research Scientist (m/f/d)

University Medical Center Freiburg

University Medical Center Freiburg

The Laboratory of Gastrointestinal Oncology, University Medical Center Freiburg, in the Department of Internal Medicine II is looking for a

Postdoctoral Researcher also: Grant Manager or Research Coordinator and a PhD Student (m/f/d)

We are seeking highly motivated individuals who are interested in cancer prevention research. In our laboratory, we are working on the pathogenesis of Barrett’s esophagus (BE) and the resulting adenocarcinoma of the gastroesophageal junction and esophagus (GEAC), a disease with a high potential for new preventive surveillance strategies. We have generated the only genetic mouse model for this disease to date (Quante et al. Cancer Cell 2012) and have demonstrated that the microenvironment plays a significant role in the pathogenesis of this disease. We have also shown that the origin of BE and EAC is located in the stomach and not in the esophagus as previously thought. This represents a change of understanding this disease and initiated a paradigm shift with implications for diagnostics, monitoring strategies, and therapy. Our goal is to develop preventive, prophylactic and therapeutic strategies for the treatment of BE and GEAC in a mouse and human translational research approach including organoids to improve the individual patient outcome.

We offer:

  • a highly translational research environment
  • state of the art methodologies (organoids, CyTOF, scRNAseq, CRISPR/Cas, Mouse models)
  • an interdisciplinary, multicultural and friendly team
  • secured funding
  • attractive graduate School programs

Requirements Postdoctoral Researcher (m/f/d):

  • doctoral degree and scientific background in cancer research
  • interest and/or experience in bioinformatics and computational biology, sequencing analysis, single cell sequencing, mouse models, CRIPR/CAS

  • experience in grant and manuscript writing
