Salary Information $47k+. Commensurate with experience.
Department Summary The Frank W. and Sue Mayborn School of Journalism is an ACEJMC-accredited school with the only professionally accredited journalism master’s program in the four-state region of Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Arkansas. The school is located in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, in one of the largest media markets in the country. We offer a journalism degree with concentrations in public relations, print/digital, broadcast/digital, photojournalism and sports journalism & communication. We also offer a bachelor of science in advertising. The Mayborn enrolls approximately 800 undergraduate students and 65 graduate students. Graduates have won many national and international awards, including Pulitzer Prizes. The school offers students multi-platform professional opportunities including the award-winning North Texas Daily student newspaper, Denton Public Access TV, and student-run photography, advertising and PR agencies. The school also hosts the annual Mayborn Literary Nonfiction Conference, the nationally acclaimed conference for aspiring and experienced writers, journalists and authors.
Position Overview Assistant to the Dean of MSOJ. Provides support for budgets, hiring, events, travel and purchasing.

Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree and five years of highly responsible and varied office administration or business management experience; or any equivalent combination of experience, education, and training

Job Duties

o Work in conjunction with MSOJ staff to plan, execute and attend Mayborn events including the Mayborn Literary Nonfiction Conference, Celebrate Mayborn, and Mayborn Mentors.
o Lead MSOJ staff through various projects. Maintain in-depth knowledge of UNT process and procedures, providing relevant information to faculty and staff.
o Work with CLASS budget officer to maintain MSOJ budgets including processing gifts to the School, MSOJ student orgs, NT Daily Advertisements, IDT’s/ABA’s, and faculty travel.
o Work closely with MSOJ Marketing Director to ensure events are planned and advertised to students in a timely manner. Handle room reservations, catering, set-up and tear-down for all MSOJ events.
o Maintain training calendar to ensure all staff and faculty are current for trainings as required by UNT.
o Serve as MSOJ liaison, including attending meetings on behalf of the School as needed. Build relationships with outside organizations and other UNT colleges/departments.
o Take meeting minutes as required for various meetings, including the Mayborn Advisory Board. Work in conjunction with Board to schedule meetings, reserve space, and secure parking.
o Provides administrative support for MSOJ Dean: schedule and coordinate meetings, collect data for decision-making, communicate MSOJ needs and/or problems, handle email correspondence, create and process travel as needed, work closely with Dean to develop events, represent the Dean to other University departments as needed.
o Provide administrate support during the hiring process for all full-time MSOJ staff and faculty: posting position in PeopleAdmin, update position descriptions as needed, work with Academic Resources for all new faculty hiring, plan and book travel for candidates in conjunction with hiring committees, process ePAR’s ensuring all information is accurate.
