Job Description

AECOM is searching for an experienced professional to join our Environmental EHS team. At AECOM, we are dedicated to creating a safer, healthier, and more sustainable world. Our mission is to work closely with our clients to deliver innovative solutions that tackle complex environmental, health, and safety (EHS) challenges. As a Senior EHS Consultant at AECOM, you will play a pivotal role in our commitment to making a positive impact on individuals and the environment.


As a Senior EHS Consultant at AECOM, you will:

  • Undertake assigned health and safety projects, including H&S compliance audits, program development, industrial hygiene sampling, and more.

  • Conduct health and safety compliance audits in alignment with regulatory requirements and management systems (ISO45001).

  • Ensure construction safety by reviewing and assessing Contractor’s Health & Safety Plans, Safe Work Method submissions, and inspecting construction sites.

  • Independently perform industrial hygiene and hazardous materials field assignments, including sampling, monitoring, and investigation.

  • Act as a subject matter expert, staying updated on changes in health and safety regulations.

  • Lead and participate in on-site health and safety meetings.

  • Ensure compliance with client’s health and safety standards and requirements.

  • Consistently execute prescribed technical procedures and work plans.

  • Collaborate, coordinate, and schedule projects with clients, following the direction of Project Managers, EHS Managers, and Client Account Managers.

  • Provide technical reviews of deliverable documentation, such as technical reports, presentations, and fee proposals.

  • Lead incident investigations, including root cause analysis.

  • Support and coordinate EHS projects across different business lines as required.

  • Perform project administration tasks, including timesheet generation, project finance management, and project invoicing.

Skills Required:

To excel as a Senior EHS Consultant at AECOM, you should possess:

  • Experience in performing third-party health and safety audits.

  • Field-level expertise in industrial hygiene sampling, monitoring, and investigation, including Indoor Air Quality assessment.

  • Proficiency in conducting hazardous materials surveys (DSS in Ontario) and managing abatement processes.

  • Experience in developing health and safety management programs, especially within the ICI market sector.

  • Strong interpersonal skills for maintaining positive working relationships with internal and external contacts.

  • The ability to uphold professionalism and objectivity while working with colleagues and clients who require varying degrees of support.



  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in health and safety consultation or advisory role (e.g. engineering consulting, oil and gas, and construction)

  • Relevant degree from an accredited institution, as well as an educational qualification in occupational health and safety;

  • Thorough understanding of Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations with emphasis on creating strong safety culture on-site and accident prevention techniques including compliance with external and internal policies;

  • Must have experience in one of the following:

  • Experience with construction projects – (e.g. railway, subway, light rail, commercial, industrial)

  • Experience with industrial hygiene projects (e.g. biological/chemical/physical exposure)

  • Experience with environmental health and safety compliance audits (e.g ISO45001 or COR)

  • Professional and technical designations are an asset (CIH/ROH, CSP/ASP/CRSP, NSCO, CSO)

  • Effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills

  • Strong organizational, administrative, analytical and problem-solving abilities

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy

  • Proficient in MS office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Availability to travel with valid driver’s license required

  • Reliable vehicle and insurance

Nice to have:

  • Experience/knowledge in hazardous waste management

  • Experience/knowledge in building science and engineering

  • Experience/knowledge in process safety engineering

  • Experience/knowledge in project management

  • Bilingual – English & French
