A truly exciting opportunity has become available for a Senior Process Engineer to join our
technical Operations team based in Avonmouth, Bristol. This role will provide process
management and engineering support to the operations onsite at Avonmouth to ensure process
safety, efficiency and compliance.

Due to Bristol’s expanding population, our Avonmouth site is also expanding with several
exciting projects that are currently underway. Your expertise will help us deliver on these
projects successfully.

The role

In this role, you will be overseeing the performance of wastewater, digestion and biogas
processes, as well as driving improvements to optimise efficiencies on site.

Alongside your technical knowledge, this role requires collaboratively working with a range of
internal stakeholders, varying in seniority. Your work will have a significant impact on how we
operate on site, and you will have strong interpersonal skills, as well as being technically
competent, which will allow us to successfully implement process improvements on site.

Being a varied and engaging role, your responsibilities will include:

  • providing process engineering and scientific support to ensure the efficient, safe and
    compliant operation of wastewater and sludge treatment processes
  • being the technical lead on process optimisation, energy saving, renewable energy and waste
    management initiatives
  • being the technical lead, representing Operations on all capital schemes and providing
    process input to feasibility and optioneering studies
  • producing outline and detailed design reviews, hazard analysis studies and commissioning
  • setting, maintaining and achieving chemical, energy and sampling budgets for site
  • reviewing operational and analytical data to make recommendations on process optimisation
    and identifying potential issues before they arise
  • reviewing and prioritising risk and raise needs for capital investment
  • working closely with Process Safety Engineers to ensure process safety and management of
    change at a high-risk operational site
  • being the point of contact for internal/external stakeholders, including the Environment
    Agency, contractors, consultants and internal departments
  • providing the Technical Competent Manager cover for Avonmouth Sludge Treatment Centre
    environmental permit as required, ensuring that the operation of the sludge treatment process
    remains compliant with the permit.

What do I need?

To be considered for this opportunity, you’ll have recent experience working within a process
engineering/science role, where you have been implementing or changing processes on wastewater
treatment sites, digestion or biogas plants.

Having a degree or experience working within a engineering or scientific discipline will be

Having knowledge and experience of health and safety issues and legislation in particular
relating to requirements for working on an operational DSEAR site would be desirable.

It is hugely important that you have excellent communication skills and are confident engaging
with numerous stakeholders at various seniority levels.

You should be proficient in data analysis and have experience on SCADA systems, as well as
using MS Packages such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Any knowledge of QlikView or Amulet
systems would be helpful but not essential.
