The GEM Center is nonprofit school alternative that serves children with Autism, trauma and social-emotional challenges. The GEM Center was created to offer a personalized and scaffolded learning environment where children are met where they are today and acquire the skills they need to thrive in their future.

At The GEM Center we have an individualized and comprehensive approach to academics, behavior support and skill acquisition. We find that our exceptional learners blossom when their interests and motivations are integrated into their programming. Our strengths-based approach empowers our exceptional learners to have purpose and it builds their confidence, self-esteem and skills. We utilize a hands-on, project-based and expeditionary learning approach, and have an interdisciplinary approach to all daily activities. Our programming emphasizes Academics, Executive Functioning, Adaptive Skills, Social Skills, Functional Communication Skills, and Emotional/Physical Regulation Skills. Our educators provide direct and small group instruction, and closely monitors academic progress, while our clinical team collects consistent data for daily, weekly and monthly goal-setting.


The GEM Center is seeking a passionate, engaged and dynamic Special Education Teacher to thoughtfully develop, plan and deliver academic programs and curriculum to meet the needs of a very small caseload of amazing twice-exceptional learners.

  • Develop and implement annual Individualized Educational Program (IEP) plans for learners – which includes present levels of educational performance, special education needs, instructional goals and objectives, and the special education and related services required to meet those goals.
  • Provide research-based specialized instruction that addresses the instructional goals and objectives within each learners’ IEP.
  • Evaluate and assess student progress against instructional objectives, and function as an IEP case manager for a very small caseload of kiddos.
  • Provide direction, supervision and evaluation of subordinate staff.
  • Conduct special education evaluations and reevaluations.
  • Maintain a strong, organized learning schedule.
  • Develop, plan and deliver standards-based curriculum, lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate fun, experiential and hands-on/project-based learning.
  • Develop fun, engaging and dynamic lesson plans
  • Consistently progress monitor and report on outcomes.
  • Employ various teaching techniques, methods, and principles of learning to ensure our learners reach their full potential, and adapt and personalize teaching strategies and lesson plans as-needed.
  • Ability to effectively an analyze needs and problems objectively.
  • Be entrepreneurial, nimble and flexible.
  • Attend staff trainings and team meetings.
  • Manage the physical environment of your classroom.


  • Degree in Special Education, or other related field.
  • Current Colorado teaching license required.Priority and increased financial consideration given to candidates who are dually certified and/or have a Master’s Degree.

Thorough knowledge of the principles and methodology of effective teaching of students with disabilities – Twice-Exceptional and/or Gifted & Talented learners a big plus.Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of special education.Knowledge and skills in working with children with Autism and behavior and social-emotional disabilities.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with children, students, parents and all stakeholders.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of effective strategies for overcoming executive functioning deficits.
  • Good driving record and valid driver’s license.
  • Proven ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis.


  • Reach with hands and arms, and must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by the position include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, balance, kneel, crouch, and operate a computer, hand-held learning devices, and other office equipment.
  • Position can require some degree of physical interaction with students who have difficulty controlling physical behavior.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $55,000.00 – $70,000.00 per year
