Staff Instructor, Strategic Summer Programs

Location: New Orleans, LA
Summary
The Staff Instructor, under the supervision of the Executive Director, will facilitate and teach academic courses in Tulane University Pre-College Programs. Courses are designed to provide participants with an enriching experience that engages them in a variety of topics. The curriculum and the development of the course will be based on subject standards with an emphasis in project-based learning. In addition to teaching a specifically designed enrichment curriculum, the staff instructor is also responsible for continuously monitoring student progress, organizing and supervising both on-site and off-site academic learning experiences, as well as assisting senior program staff in organizing culminating activities to showcase student projects.
Program Activities Schedule :
Classroom Instruction – Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 12noon and 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Occasional professional development workshops, 5:30 to 6:30 as assigned.
Additional activities: staff meetings, academic course preparations, and one-on-one student tutoring and/or mentoring sessions as needed.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Proficient computer skills; familiarity with storyline and web-based applications like Canvas.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated leadership and team building skills.
- Highly organized and detailed oriented.
- Demonstrated maturity, responsibility, and creativity.
- Familiarity with interactive teaching methods/techniques that will engage students at all levels and create a learning environment of critical-thinking.
- Self-directed and results oriented, with the ability to thrive in an evolving workplace.
- Ability to relate to young people, see their potential for growth, and support them to succeed.
Required Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in an education or field related to course offered
Preferred Qualifications
- Teaching experience, preferably with children or adolescents.
- Graduate course work in a related field.
- Teacher certification.
