Job Description:

The Department of Applied Physiology and Kinesiology (APK) at UF is currently seeking a student assistant to support the Media Committee and the Industry Advisory Board.  This role will be responsible for attending all APK-focused events, capturing content, and creating posts to be used on social media platforms.  This individual will also support the needs of the media committee for special projects.  Preference will be given to candidates with a proven track record and understanding of social media content creation, either personally or professionally.  This position is a hybrid role with the ability to complete some work remotely.

Job Duties:

  • Attend planning meetings with APK Media Committee to strategize content creation
  • Capture content through video and/or photography at department events – events might include guest speakers, workshops, seminars, meetings, or standard classroom events like lectures and demonstrations
  • Provide copy and captions for all events, including use of relevant hashtags and tagging
  • Help drive engagement on platforms like LinkedIn and YouTube through consistent and relevant posts about the department
  • Work with Industry Advisory Board Liaison to highlight content that speaks to industry professionals and their involvement (or potential involvement) on campus
  • Maintain organized digital library of content that can be utilized in the future
  • Manage social media platforms, under the supervision of Media Committee, paying special attention to engagement with followers – responding to comments and engaging with audience to generate more traffic
  • Oversee special and unique technology-based projects as appropriate
  • Aid in the creation of departmental marketing and collateral by providing relevant and timely visual content
  • Provide insight, suggestions, and feedback as appropriate regarding ways to optimize social media channels and their impact
  • Support special projects of the department as it relates to social media and content creation/sharing
Expected Salary:

$11.00-$12.00 per hour

Minimum Requirements:

This position is open to all students who are eligible to work on campus and will be employed through student Other Personnel Services (OPS) and must maintain a minimum 2.0 grade point average. Registered students are employed on a part-time basis, up to 20 hours per week.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Preference will be given to:
    • Undergraduate students – 2nd or 3rd year; willing to commit to more than 1 year in role
    • Graduate students – 1st year with the ability to remain in the position through graduation
  • Strong attention to detail, time management skills, and strategic thinking
  • Ability to work independently, meeting deadlines and producing high-quality work
  • Prior professional experience managing social media accounts, preferred.  Candidates who have not previously managed professional social media accounts should be able to demonstrate skill and effectiveness in managing their personal accounts, including audience growth and engagement
  • Interest in being directly involved with all APK events on UF campus in Gainesville
  • Passion for the field of APK and a desire to highlight and promote the department
  • Flexible schedule/availability to be able to attend planning meetings and events on campus to capture content; including occasional evenings and possible occasional weekends
  • Must be located in the greater Gainesville area with reliable transportation to and from the UF campus
