The Ohio State University has a diverse and growing research program to facilitate discoveries and improve people’s lives.  Supporting this endeavor, the University Laboratory Animal Resources (ULAR) provides core housing for our biomedical research program across all the Health Sciences campus.  Ensuring the highest standard of care for our animals contributes to good science.  Come and join our team as a Supervisor for ULAR Husbandry Operations and help make a difference.

The Operations Supervisor provides oversight to maintain a high standard of quality in animal care and employee performance and takes appropriate corrective measures to resolve deficiencies.  The individual in this position serves as the liaison between Operations Team Leaders, Veterinary staff, ULAR Administration, Research staff, and other support staff.  Working with the Team Leaders, helps to coordinate personnel resources and determine appropriate staffing levels.  Helps to ensure that ULAR animal husbandry facilities are in inspection-ready status by being knowledgeable about regulations and guidelines applicable to the animal care and use program.  Promotes an environment that values and respects employees and resolves conflict professionally.  Should be familiar with ULAR operational needs: ordering, census, and transfers; pre-approves orders as necessary for assigned areas; other duties as assigned. The position requires the successful completion of a background check and a post-employment physical.

Required Education and Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree plus at least 8 years’ experience or a combination of related education and work experience.

  • 4 years + having direct managerial experience of employees in an animal research environment.

  • Laboratory Animal technologist Certification (LATG) certification or Certified Manager Animal Resources (CMAR)

  • Excellent communication skills and experience working with diverse staff, laboratory researchers and research models.

Additional Information:

The hiring salary range for this position is $53,800 to $71,700 along with excellent benefits and opportunities to learn and grow. Working shared weekend and holiday hours is required. The Ohio State University offers competitive and comprehensive benefit options. Explore for more information.
