About the Disclosure & Barring Service:
The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) was established under the Protection of Freedoms Act
2012 on 1 December 2012, operating from two sites, Liverpool and Darlington.
We provide disclosure functions in England, Wales, Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man, and
barring functions for England, Wales and Northern Ireland, on behalf of government.
DBS operates within the safeguarding arena alongside our multi-agency partners. Safeguarding
means protecting people’s health, wellbeing and human rights, and enabling them to live free
from harm, abuse and neglect.
Job purpose:
The post holder will provide subject matter expertise in the specialism of Sustainability to
enable DBS to deliver its Green agenda.
DBS are committed to becoming recognized as a ‘sustainable and green organisation’ in the way
we do our business and deliver the government’s Greening commitment (GGC) targets.
DBS has also implemented a Green Strategic Plan, Green Policy, Green Charter and work continues
to develop a Green Delivery Plan and the role of Green Champions.
The Sustainability and Environmental Manger will support the Head of Workplace and Facilities
in proactively leading and managing the delivery of the DBS Green Agenda, collation and
verification of DBS’s sustainability data, performance and recommendations for continuous
improvement.
Essential criteria:
- Adaptability to manage changing priorities and tight deadlines
- Clear demonstration of FM skills in both meeting customer needs and managing supplier
relationships - Use of Microsoft Office Applications (Outlook, Excel, Teams etc) to support work outputs
- Ability to work on initiative within a wide ranging but structured environment
- Undertake physical tasks such as assessments, audits and inspections and risk inspections
of buildings and premises - Communicate and Influence
- Experienced in energy or environmental role
- Experience of applying environmental and sustainability legislation, strategies, principles
and processes in a complex environment - Understanding workplace analytics & data; translating it into insights when making
decisions about the workplace - Understanding and complying with statutory, regulatory and professional requirements

or equivalent experience OR A relevant degree in sustainability, ecology, natural resource
management or a related topic
Desirable criteria:
- Influential and able to lead key senior stakeholders, colleagues and customers towards
commercial solutions that give a balance of optimal performance and environmentally sustainable
solutions that support the business strategy - Experience in environmental aspects of risk and impact assessments
- Chartered Environmentalist or equivalent experience OR Full membership of relevant
professional body (eg RICS, Energy Institute, Energy Managers Association, CIEEM, ICE or CIOB)
