- Simultaneous interpretation from English into Russian and vice -versa throughout video-call and off-line during the Conference “Strengthening regional cooperation on monitoring air quality and dust storms in the context of climate change” that will be held in Almaty city.
Duties and Responsibilities
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment.
- The overall objective of the UNEP’s Economy Division is to encourage decision makers in government, local authorities and industry to develop and adopt policies, strategies and practices and technologies that promote sustainable patterns of consumption and production, make efficient use of natural resources, ensure safe management of chemicals and contribute to making trade and environment policies mutually supportive. It promotes the development, use and transfer of policies, technologies, economic instruments, managerial practices and other tools that assist in environmentally sound decision making and the building of corresponding activities.
- The United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) is the strategic partnership between the United Nations and over 450 banks, insurers and investors. For over 28 years UNEP FI has been shaping and driving the international sustainable finance agenda, setting global standards and growing a global network of leading financial institutions.
- Through its work-streams and regional activities, peer learning, methodology development, training and research, UNEP FI promotes sustainable finance and helps the financial industry align with and contribute to the Paris Agreement and Sustainable Development Goals. The United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) will commence its PRB Academy in Central Asia in close collaboration with GO4SDGS on 25 September 2024 in Bishkek Kyrgyzstan.
- This Academy is geared towards raising the capabilities of Banks in the region to be better integrate sustainability in their operations. The launch press conference will be followed by an in-person training for institutions, bringing together key expertise and speakers from a broad range of international and regional efforts on sustainability. For this occasion, the European Regional lead of UNEP FI will be visiting the region, as a keynote speaker in the conference and spending time in both Kyrgyzstan (Bishkek) and Kazakhstan (Almaty) for key meetings with both financial institutions as well as with relevant regulators in the country. Given that he does not know the Russian language and to be able to properly communicate to the relevant actors in the region, for this reason we seek the services of an interpreter to provide English/Russian simultaneous interpretation during this visit, enabling smooth communication between UNEP FI representative and the relevant Ministries of the countries visited (Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan).
- The incumbents have to bear outstanding technical translation capacity to facilitate smooth discussion at a dynamic environment of the conference due to its challenging technical topics. Objectives: Simultaneous interpretation from English into Russian and vice versa. The performance will be evaluated based on quality, correctness and completeness of the interpretation work.
- Specific tasks and responsibilities: Under the supervision of the Programme Management Officer, the consultants will provide simultaneous interpretation from English into Russian and vice versa throughout the conference “Strengthening regional cooperation on monitoring air quality and dust storms in the context of climate change” which will also be broadcasted via Zoom.
- The consultant shall be under the overall supervision of the Head of UNEP FI and report directly to the European Regional lead of UNEP FI.
Qualifications/special skills
- Education: A bachelor’s degree in humanitarian sciences preferably related to languages or equivalent is required. Professional Experience: At least 7 years of work experience in interpretation from English into Russian and vice-versa is required.
Languages
- Languages: English is the working language of the United Nations Secretariat. For this consultancy, fluency in both oral and written English and Russian is required.
