The Faculty of Biological Sciences at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena invites applications for a

W2 Professorship Pharmaceutical Chemistry

to be filled at the next possible date.

We are looking for a research personality (m/f/d), who should represent the subject Pharmaceutical Chemistry in its entirety in research and teaching, and should be characterized by strengths in publication activity and competitive collaborative research. The research focus should be on a modern area of pharmaceutical chemistry with close relationship to drugs, where drug analytics or computer-aided drug design and drug-related natural product research are preferred disciplines. For the multidisciplinary research at the faculty, a professorship with an explicit competence in pharmaceutical chemistry is required. Successful acquisition of third-party funding, leadership skills and activities in joint research projects are expected. The approbation as pharmacist is desired but not required. Teaching in the subject area pharmaceutical chemistry of the State Examination Course of Pharmacy is to be held in German language. In addition, theses are supervised in the diploma program Pharmacy.

Candidates are expected to cooperate closely with the professorships of the Institute of Pharmacy, the Faculty of Biological Sciences and neighboring faculties (Chemistry and Earth Sciences, Medicine) in the field of natural product research /microbiology, innovative materials or aging research. The expertise of pharmaceutical chemistry can be integrated in existing research consortia (Excellence Cluster Balance of the Microverse, SFB1127 ChemBioSys, SFB1278 PolyTarget, Septomics and the associated centers Jena Center for Soft Matter and Center for Sepsis Control & Care). The willingness to cooperate with working groups of subject-related areas of the university and non-university institutes, such as the Leibniz Institutes for Aging Research, Natural Product Research and Infection Biology and Photonic Technologies, and the associated priorities of university research is expected.

The prerequisites are a completed degree, a relevant doctorate, a Habilitation or equivalent academic achievement, as well as pedagogical aptitude. Appointment as a professor shall be for life as a civil servant, provided that the legal requirements are met.
