Welcome and Inclusive Communities Manager

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced event manager with a proven track record to lead a newly formed team who will deliver exceptional inclusive community building events, throughout the academic year, for our students.

The role holder will lead on the planning, coordination and delivery of our cross-University Welcome Village and academic induction programme for approximately 12,000 students. Throughout the remainder of the academic year, this role will lead a team of Inclusive Communities Officers and Chief and Senior Residents to plan and deliver inclusive, community building events for all students in halls of residence. This role will lead on our evaluation strategy across all our activities to build inclusive communities within our halls of residences.

  • Lead on the planning and coordination of Welcome Village by liaising with multiple cross-University stakeholders and delegating tasks to their Inclusive Communities Officer team.
  • During the planning and delivery of the Welcome Village, act as the escalation point for issues as they arise, solving problems effectively and independently.
  • Line manage three Inclusive Communities Officers in their day to day tasks, holding them accountable for their work and developing them as practitioners.
  • Lead on the planning and delivery of event series over the vacation periods, collaborating with Global Lounge and the Bristol Students’ Union to coordinate our programmes.
  • Lead on the Inclusive Communities team’s strategy to support students to engage with the wider Bristol community. Engage with local community groups to build, establish, and maintain these relationships.
  • Lead on the Inclusive Communities team’s strategy to lead on our evaluation and impact reporting using this data to continually improve the sense of community felt by our students in residences.

You’re a motivated, positive event management professional with experience working with young adults from a diverse range of backgrounds. You have experience line managing a busy team who working on a shifting working pattern. You have excellent attention to detail, can solve problems independently and are adept at managing a busy and varied workload.

You have an understanding of how to build communities within groups of people and an awareness of how these approaches may differ within our diverse student body.
